Infotainment Knob Location

Depends on the size of the display.
The 8” knob is on the left.
The 12” knob is on the right.

 

The 12" screen on the right hand side is primarily because Toyota did not "design" it for US drivers.
Toyota Camry 2025, the 12 " display has its knob on the left hand side. So, the next refresh of Prius will probably see an update/correction.

 

Not true. The knob on the 12.3" screen is always on the passenger side with the Prius, no matter if it's a RHD or LHD setup.

(unless you live in a right-hand drive country where everything is reversed - but that doesn't apply to the OP)

[update] Yes. you are correct. - even the one in Japan is on the passenger side for Prius. Only Camry is at the driver side.

 

That is bizarre… why? Seems unergonomic.

 

This is only a guess, but I wonder if Toyota thought it would be helpful for the passenger to have easy access to the volume control? The driver has control from the steering wheel, so maybe they thought they might as well move the knob so a second person would have easy access.

Or it's because they wanted to move the screen as close to the driver as possible for ergonomics, and that didn't leave room for the physical knob. But the 8" screen uses the same housing, so there's lots of room to put the knob wherever.

Just some guesses.

 

and the ux300h Lexus uses the same screen, but the knob is closer to the driver…

 

How could they miss this for US cars the knob is far away enough to be almost useless a PIA if that’s the flaw maybe not a flaw
It is convenient for passengers but volume and muting for driver could be way better
Now that I have lived with the car for three months and 3000 miles I find the infotainment system, poor to fair
Love the power it’s a point and shoot car now in city driving peppy acceleration
Downside is that NVH of motor is still coarse when you push it wish it made better sounds
Who’s going to experiment with aftermarket exhaust/pipe/ muffler??

 

I don't have a problem comfortably reaching the knob, but maybe my arms are longer than most.

 

Or, they could have avoided all the nonsense and did what they did on the Crown.


...And why not, you already took the gauge/HUD from the BZ4X, you ain't above going to the parts bin Toyota!

 

I recall when doing my research before buying the Prime was that the 12 inch screen could be controlled from the steering wheel inputs rather than the volume knob. I think it makes a little sense. I only use the knob to turn the radio on and off. Anything else, I just use the touchscreen.
