    Hey guys,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out what's going on with my prius.

Today as I was driving the Temp symbol popped up followed by a solid check engine light. I pulled over to check what the deal was. I popped the hood and noticed right away coolant sprayed along the sides of the reservoir. This is the second time I've noticed coolant sprayed around the reservoir. The first time I just figured the reservoir cap just came loose and made sure it was tightly on and went on my way. Now today this happened again.

The code I pulled for the check engine is P0117. Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

How many miles on your car?

Classic symptoms of a failing engine water pump. Replace it ASAP!

I only takes one time for the engine to get hot and they can be ruined.......... the cars are total junk after 150,000 miles

We'll see how things go. Staying on top of things is key. When this occurred I promptly pulled over to assess the situation and refilled the little bit of coolant I lost. On my drive home I monitored the engine temp. It reached a high of 200 F under heavy engine load, but it stayed at a average of 195 F +- a few degrees.
I've been checking things periodically since and things have been pretty stable. The check engine light went away later that evening.

Has it shook violently when starting for about 5 to 10 seconds? That is the real tell tale marker of blown head gasket..... Usually is does the crazy shaking start and is a bit low on water is it's the head gasket....
Water pump not hard to do as I have done that also.

I know all about it as it happened to me.
