I replaced my 2016 FWD with my 2020 AWDe. There was no measurable difference in MPG.

There are old competition threads around here in which drivers achieved significantly higher MPGs than that for whole tanks of fuel. Though none in the U.S. had the patience to keep it up for anywhere near that distance.

I do wonder if some of the Japanese hypermiler-commuters may have beaten that. Several of their Gen2 folks, with 15.9 gallon tanks over there (no North-American-style fuel bladders), had results that translated to triple-digit MPGs for full tanks. The final one reported here exceeded 3000 km on a single tank. If they continued with multiple consecutive tanks, they could have crushed this -- with Gen2s, not even Gen3s.

Steady low speeds are key. Difficult in the great majority of American traffic habitats, but apparently a better fit to certain Japanese commuter habitats.

... or just take a lazy approach: swap tires for something with smaller diameter.

How many days was this over? Average distance per trip? Temps? Same route? Avg. # of stops? Avg. mph?
