Optima Announces Prius Replacement 12v Yellow Top Battery with Pencil Posts

Submitted by Danny on September 21, 2011 - 12:55pm.

A problem beginning to plague many Prius owners is not the big Nickel Metal Hydride battery that drives the Prius' HSD system like people have been scared into believing for years. No, instead it's the 12V battery - the one that actually starts the car and runs all of the accessories - that is starting to die on many Prius owners.

Smug Alert! Prius on SouthPark

The Prius has been a popular target of pop culture since its inception into the mainstream back in 2004. Probably the most (in)famous reference was in the South Park episode entitled "Smug Alert!". But the car has appeared as a character, prop, or backdrop in numerous other TV shows, movies, and music videos.

Submitted by Danny on December 1, 2009 - 4:41pm.

Toyota has been pretty much "mum's the word" about the upcoming Prius Plug-In PHEV, or PHV as Toyota is calling it. But tomorrow that should all change as the Prius Plug-In makes it's US debut at the LA Auto Show. PriusChat has received a tip that, coinciding with tomorrow's auto show debut, Toyota will launch the Prius Plug-In microsite www.priusphv.com as a source of information on the Prius Plug-In Demonstration Program.

Prius Sales Up 20.7% in November

Submitted by Danny on December 1, 2009 - 3:23pm.

November was another good month for Prius sales in the US, showing a 20.7% increase over November 2008 sales. The Prius continues to be the best-selling hybrid in the United States, with few available on lots throughout the country and a very large waiting list in Japan.

The other Toyota/Lexus hybrids continued to post good sales numbers, with the RX hybrid accounting for about 15% of total RX sales, and the all-new HS hybrid selling over 1,400 units.

The 2010 Prius: Standard vs LED Headlights

Submitted by Danny on November 24, 2009 - 12:41pm.

2010 Prius LED Headlights
I get a few emails every week from prospective Prius owners asking my opinion about package combination's, which Prius model to pick, accessories, etc. The question I probably receive the most is "Are the LED headlights worth getting the "Advanced Technology" package?" I typically ask a few questions about the future Prius owner's need for other features in the AT package and almost always end up saying "No", because, well, I don't think the AT package is worth the price just to get the LEDs.
