It's award season, and not just for those fancy moviestars. After winning MotorWeek's Best Vehicle of the Year award a couple of weeks ago, the Prius has now been nominated by journalists for the 2010 World Car of the Year award and the World Green Car award. The Prius' competitors in the World Car of the Year race are the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Volkswagen Polo.

Here's a nice ray of sunshine on an otherwise pretty crappy week for Toyota: The 2010 Prius has won Motorweek's 2010 Drivers' Choice Best Vehicle of the Year. MotorWeek decided to give the award to the Prius even after the recent brake recall. Check out the last 2 paragraphs for their reason why.

Today ABC News posted their "Top 10 Innovations of the Decade". Among the Top 10 were GPS, Text Messaging, Social Networking, and, yes, the Toyota Prius. It shouldn't come as any surprise to Prius enthusiasts, but the Prius has helped lead to greater discussion of climate change, social responsibility, and the future of the automotive industry. Would we have ever seen cars like the Tesla Roadster, the upcoming Tesla Model S, or the Chevy Volt had it not been for the Prius?

I say no.

KBB didn't rank them 1-10, but they did list them by Combined MPG and the Prius is at the top, so that says to me that the Prius tops KBB's Top 10 Green Cars list.
