Submitted by Danny on September 11, 2009 - 11:26am.

Toyota hasn't released any fuel efficiency numbers yet, but the Auris Hybrid Concept has an EV Mode that can take you 1.25 miles at speeds up to 31 MPH.  The PWR, ECO, and EV modes all transfer over from the 2010 Prius into the Auris concept, giving the driver control over their driving experience.

MR2 Prius Coupe Rumors heating up

Submitted by Danny on July 28, 2009 - 12:05pm.

Would you be interested in a hybrid with the exterior of a MR2 and the interior of a Prius?  The rumor mill is heating up lately with more news of the rumored Prius coupe that I told you about back in March.  The "Prius Coupe" will carry the same 1.8 2ZR-FXE engine that the 2010 Prius has, but it will bump up the horsepower to 136 ponies.  In order to compete with the upcoming Honda CR-Z, the Prius Coupe (MR2) will be a 2+2 seating configuration.

The new Toyota hybrid will be marketed to both Japan and the United States and will be equipped with a version of the Hybrid Synergy Drive system. Expect it to target the lower end of the market and be released with a target price lower than the Honda Insight's $20k tag.

PriusChat's 2010 Prius In-Depth Review and First Drive

Submitted by Danny on March 25, 2009 - 8:38am.

It’s 3am and I don’t think Toyota knows where their 2010 Prius is. Hell, I don’t even know where we are. I’ve been riding with Wayne Gerdes from CleanMPG for a few hours and now it’s finally my turn to drive as we head back to the Toyota Media Preview. My turn to see what kind of MPG I can get out of the 2010 Prius, not hypermiling, but “Dannymiling”. Dannymiling is how I’d venture to guess a normal Prius owner would drive their car: 5 miles over the speed limit on the interstate, cruise control on, climate control on and set to a comfortable temperature.

Is Toyota Bringing Back the MR2 as the Prius Coupe?

Submitted by Danny on March 19, 2009 - 9:30am.

Will the MR2 classic Toyota coupe be re-born as a Prius Coupe? Toyota executive vice president Masatami Takimoto told Auto Express at the Geneva Motor Show. “We are aware of the fondness with which the MR2 is held in the UK and Europe, and are developing a small hybrid sports car. “

We have set a tough price point (expected to be around £20,000), as it will be easier to sell if it is affordable. It has to be fun to drive, too, which means the hybrid set-up must be different to the Prius’s, with greater responsiveness.”
