VIDEO: Virtual Video of the FT-CH Concept

Submitted by Danny on January 11, 2010 - 1:08pm.

Toyota has posted a 2 minute virtual drive with the FT-CH concept over on YouTube (you can see it below in HD). The video overall is very cool with a great soundtrack, but I've never seen a gas station in a tunnel before (and I don't think it would be safe). The final 15 seconds has a nice "Welcome to the family!" moment.

Toyota Officially Announces Prius Family

Submitted by Danny on January 11, 2010 - 11:30am.

Today Toyota finally officially announced its intentions to market a family line-up of Prius hybrids. You probably read four months ago on PriusChat that Toyota had told its dealers about an idea to market a family of Prius hybrids, but Toyota was keeping quiet about the plan until today. No official models are being added to the family at this time, but expect to see the new FT-CH concept make it into the world as a Prius at some point in the near future.

Will this be a future member of the Prius family of hybrids? It appears that it could be a "little brother" for the Prius.

Super-Sized Prius coming by end of 2010?

Submitted by Danny on November 13, 2009 - 11:47am.

Would you like fries with that? Some pretty reputable news sources are running with a story that Toyota will be releasing a super-sized Prius by the end of 2010. The Prius XL will be in the form of a wagon or small SUV - probably similar to the size of what the RAV4 used to be. The Prius XL will also be the first hybrid that Toyota produces with a lithium-ion battery pack in place of the NiMH pack used in the 2010 (and previous) Prius.

Toyota Greenlights Prius Subbrand

Submitted by Danny on September 16, 2009 - 11:44pm.

Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales, has been urging his Japanese bosses to allow him to start a Prius subbrand for the US market.  It appears that new Toyota president Akio Toyoda has been listening.  According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Toyota executives announced at a recent dealer's meeting in Las Vegas that they are considering offering new hybrid models larger and smaller than the current Prius hatchback.  Perhaps the Prius MR2 will be a reality?
