Has anybody, or does anybody know how to update the map system in the GPS? I have a 2006 with the factory GPS installed and there are some major highway revisions being done in the Chicago area that I would like to have reflected in my system.

My understanding is that it gets its data from a DVD that comes pre-installed, but I have no idea how to upgrade this, and the dealer was actually no help at all.

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance.

The best way is to check what version you have (it's done on the MFD). Then go to your dealer to see if they have a later version. It'll cost about $250.

Sorry, but what does "MFD" stand for?

$250 seems pretty pricy too. Leave it to the dealer!

Hi -

The MFD is the multi-function display screen in the center of the dash. There are several threads regarding updating the navigation in this forum if you'd care to search. I've not heard that there's an update since last December. I, too, would like to get an update when it becomes available.....

Thanks. I actually did do a search before making my post, but maybe I wasn't entering the right words to search for.

Thanks for your help.

One thing to keep in mind is the latency between a road being built and it appearing on the Nav map. Denso, who makes the Prius/Lexus Nav system, buys the data from other parties who get it from a variety of sources. But it doesn't happen fast. If you MapQuest or Google the area and the roads don't show up, they won't be on a new Nav DVD. Even if you can find the streets online, it might take a year or two before Denso presses a new DVD. Ask local owners of new Prii if they have the streets on their Nav system before feeding the dealer $250+.

TommyBoy, did you find out what version you already have? If not, press MENU and the MAP DVD button in the upper right corner. The latest is 6.1 I believe.

Yea, I have version 05.1, and that's on a 2006 Prius. So I guess there's at least one update out there for me.
