Thumbs up

Hi,

I finally figure out how to transfer one number at a time from my phone via BT to my prius, [What a pain], but I would like to know if it is possible to transfer my whole phone book which is stored in my outlook and transfer to my 07 prius.

I downloaded the auto phone ripper already. It generated a vcf file. But when I pair my laptop with my prius, the prius only shows up as a audio device, I can't do the OBEX file push.

Any hints?

Happy Holidays!

It is possible, depending on the phone. First you transfer the contacts list from the computer to the phone, via Bluetooth or a USB cable, and then upload the information to the car.

Apparantly this is not going to work on the 2007's. I tried several times and it seems that this BT 'security hole' has been plugged.

Ah, I can't even send over single entries from my Treo 650 (on T-Mobile) to my Prius, much less my whole Treo 650 addressbook. Just gives me a cryptic error on the MRD

PC -> Phone -> Prius
This is the only way I know that does not require you to be tech-savvy.

Step (1), PC->phone
If your carrier is Verison. Forget it.

Step (2) Phone->Prius
Some phones allow you to upload the entire phones book instead of one-by-one.
e.g. Sony Ericcson phones
Make sure the phone book meets certain prerequisites. (such as one number per contact, etc.)

For 1, you mean Verizon?

For 2, it depends on the phone AND carrier since the firmware and its capabilities can vary depending on the carrier. Why does it have to be only one # per contact? On Sprint's Motorola Razr V3m, although I can't select the entire phonebook to upload, I can select multiple contacts to upload at once. That succeeded and some of them contained mulitple #s per contact.

http://toyota.letstalk.com/ has some compatibility info (test results) for some phones.

There are a couple of Verizon phones that still allow you to download phone directories to the Prius. If you do a search in PriusChat you can find them.

I finally went out and bought a Sony Ericcson T68i (unlocked) on Ebay, and used Susteen's Data Pilot to transfer my directory from my E815 to the T68i. The T68i had no problem in transfering the entire directory to the car in one shot ( took about 5 minutes)

Verizon Motorola phones mostly have had OBEX (object exchange ) turned off, and OPP (Object push) totally crippled. so that Verizon can sell you extra services (like VCast), ring tones and picture services.

I hacked my E815 to restore OBEX, which turned it into an E815m. This allowed me to download (via cable) pictures and portions of any music file to use as ring tones. I'm currently using the first 15 seconds of "Take the A Train" by Count Basie. You would need to get Motorola Phone tools to do that. Data Pilot doesn't seem to support the E815m.

In retrospect, I could have manually downloaded the 200 or so numbers that are in the directory in less time, and a lot lower cost than the "adventure" of going the route that I took. But then again, that's not what being a nerd is all about.

I don't know why everyone is so quick to blame the phonebook problem on Verizon. My husband and I have the same phone, with the same software - verizon motorola v3m razrs. He has no problem transferring his entire phone book to his BMW, as a matter of fact every time he turns on the car it transfers automatically. I can't transfer my phone book to my 2005 Prius. Perhaps the problem is the Denso BT car kit - not Verizon?

BTW, I don't work for Verizon or Toyota. I'm just annoyed that my phone book won't transfer.

In the past Verizon has specifically disabled the Bluetooth protocols for transfering files from phone to phone or other devices. Recently they have relented and some of their phone models now transfer single phone contacts using the business card method...vCard. However, and this happened to me with a TomTom nav unit and a Verizon e815 BT file transfer disabled phone in Radio Shack--a Bluetooth device can pull your entire phonebook out of your phone after pairing has been made with the device. I assume this is what happens with your husbands BMW. In other words the phone is not transfering the contacts, the BMW nav unit is reading the contacts into its database.
