purchased from PriusChat.com, now what?

I follwed the written instructions provided by DICE. I followed forum help in setting switches and unplugging the small black connector between head unit and DICE unit to reset the switches. But the song title and artist was never seen on the head unit. Music would only play in sequence and could only be controlled from the iPOD.

Only the number 1 button on the 6 CD changer was available to be used. Numbers 2 through 6 were grayed out.

Does the Priuschat accessory shop support the products they sell? Help. I had good service on the shark fin antennae I purchased here.

Is there a better more reliable unit than the DICE, perhaps with more features?

What did DICE say when you called them for support?

This is something you've gotta take up with DICE. They don't seem to have the most reliable product in the world.... 2006 Prius owners have been suffering with bugs for months now. Apparently a few weeks ago they fixed those problems, so maybe the fix has messed it up for the 2005 Prius now?

I hope you will post a follow up letting us know how things turn out. I also have a 2005 Prius with Nav and am looking through the many threads for some indication that the DICE will work for me. As the problems and success stories seem to cover the waterfront, I will be checking back in as we have similar cars

I hope things work out.

Thanks

I installed the DICE iPod unit and it worked fairly well. Occassionally it would "lose its mind" and display only INIT as the album/artist and a random song title. I could still play songs and playlists by selecting them directly from the iPod. I just couldn't see the song info on the MFD.

I called up DICE technical support and they shipped me a new, updated-firmware unit, no questions, no credit-card-charged-now-which-we'll-credit-when-we-get-the-old-one-back. The product may be a bit flakey, but the support is excellent. I still don't know why they can't show me the playlist name when in playlist mode, but it works well otherwise.

If you have a lot of playlists, it's still easier to use the iPod to select what you want to hear. You can spin much quicker than stepping down a playlist at a time with the DICE and the steering wheel controls. What I really like is that it controls the iPod like a CD when a phone call comes in; it pauses the music and resumes when you terminate the call.

2005 with JBL and nav.

I considered ordering the DICE iPod for my 2006 Prius. I recently asked a guy I know who does car audio installs if he had installed a DICE in a Prius and he had done one (he wasn't sure if it was a 2005 or 06.) He said that the guy came back and had it removed because it was defective, and he hasn't heard back from him yet. Based on that and some of the other problems I've seen discussed on PC, I think I'll just continue to play my iPod through the aux jack.

I had some problems with CD text and control at installation startup - the key is to:
1. pull the radio fuse under the hood (see your manual for correct one, but its in the engine compartment and controls the dome lights as well as the stereo),
2. set all of the dip switches to the "up" position
3. put fuse back in and reset the iPod.

Now it will work - for a while, that is. I have to take the fuse back out to reset the Dice every week or so or I lose control of the iPod from the steering wheel and the screen on the Prius reads "init" instead of the CD text showing artist, etc. Sad, but true.

Bill, I had the same problem and pulling the fuse under the hood solves it temporarily. I may contact Dice for a new unit if it solved the "init" problem for you permanently. Otherwise, just having the dip switches "up" in all cases and pulling the fuse once per week does the trick. Sadly.

I have a 2005 Prius with Nav and also had the experience of the DICE not working. First, it took about three attempts at installation before I was able to get the plug to stay in the back of the radio. When I finally did, I got sound but no other functionality. I called DICE and they sent me a replacement unit. I'm happy to report the replacement works perfectly, even the text. It was not a firmware issue for me, just a faulty box.

Is there an update on this? It sounds like it's stuck on Simple mode.
