The Bluetooth hands-free car kit installed in my 2007 Prius seems to work fine, except I am unable to access the phone list on my Blackberry 7520 version 4.0.2. Does this require a later Blackberry version, or am I doing something wrong?

Have you uploaded it to the car yet?

Yes. Bluetooth is enabled on my Blackberry, and the Prius car kit appears as a paired device ("HANDS FREE") under the Bluetooth options on my Blackberry. I can also make and receive calls using the car software.

I saw something on the Blackberry site that leads me to think the Blackberry must be on version 4.1.0 or later. If anyone can confirm that, it would be greatly appreciated.

no, that's not what I meant. What you just described was the Pairing process. I asked if you had uploaded your phonebook yet. Look up instructions for your model Blackberry on how to push your phonebook by bluetooth. Then refer to the car manual to get the car in the correct mode. It's actually pretty simple.

Yes, but there is the following page on the blackerry.com Web site:

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?c...0%200%208545145

The page pertains to a BMW but sounds similar. On the page, it states a Blackberry 4.1 or later is required for "address book integration". To integrate my address book with the Prius car kit, the steps described are:

On my Blackberry, click:

Options

Bluetooth

Options

I can get this far. However, then I need to click on "Address Book Options", followed by "Change Option" - but "Address Book Options" does not appear in the Bluetooth options on my Blackberry 4.0.2.

Oooo, you have a Nextel/Sprint device. I should have remember that earlier. Nextel liked to gimp their bluetooth devices just like Sprint used to and Verizon still does. Nextel stopped doing that stuff when the Sprint take-over happened so their next round of bluetooth devices will be fully enabled. Makes things trickier. You may not be able to get this to work.

I'll dig around through my Sprint notes and see if it supports the correct profile.

N/m it was easier to find than I thought. The 7520 does not support OBEX. You can't do it. You'll have to enter everything by hand or use another phone to push out the phonebook.

It looks like RIM isn't going to add it even to their newer lineup except for the Pearl. Not surprising since they're targeting the consumer market instead of the business market.

I have a blackberry 7250 under Verizon. It didn't come with the the 4.1 firmware, but I was able to download and install new version from Verizon for free. I checked my options under settings going into Bluetooth and then options there is a selection for "Address Book Transfer".

I don't have that device paired with my Prius so I cant say that I have tried it.

I suppose there is a chance that the 4.1 firmware might enable OBEX on the 7520, but only sprint/nextell would know for sure.
