My Car: 2008 Prius Package: N/A Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | I am interested in adding Sirius satellite radio to my 2008 Prius. In the interest of getting our Prius delivered early, we got an Option 6, which is satellite-ready but does not come with satellite radio already installed. Frankly, I am nervous about trying to install it myself. You can buy a Sirius radio kit from the Prius Shop for $265, but does anyone on this board have any experience with self-installation? I called my dealer and they want upwards of $900 to put Sirius in my car. This seems steep. But to buy a kit for $265, and then find it's technically a nightmare to install myself doesn't seem like the right choice either. Any advice? Thanks! |

My Car: 2004 Prius Package: #9 Nominated 1 Time in 1 Post TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 23 | Many of us, including myself, have done the install ourselves. It seems a little daunting, but it's really not that hard....just time consuming. It's a great way to learn how the car is put together and will make it easier for you to do other projects later on. That said, if you're uncomfortable doing that you can always ask a local stereo installer to do it for you...they will charge you around $50-100. I'd have the antenna put on the back of the car instead of the dash personally. |

It's much cheaper and gets better reception. The sole disadvantage to it is that the up/down buttons on the steering wheel change channels up or down. For the factory kit, they change between presets which is usually more convenient. |

I used both guides, and they are wonderfully written!!! #1 http://priuschat.com/forums/attachme...sxminstall.pdf # 2 https://www.metrotpn.com/documents/PDF%20Files/Prius/Eddie's%20XMRadio%20Install/PriusXMradio3.2.pdf #3 PriusChat Shop : Toyota XM Satellite Radio Kit [XM] - $265.00 The first is the factory install document, the second shows how to rip into the dash correctly so you can but it all back together so it still looks sweet! The 3rd is where you can buy the XM unit for $265. It takes a couple of hours or so to do. Plugs into the back of the radio, and was very simple for me to install!! Have Fun 73 de Pat KK6PD |

My Car: 2007 Prius Package: #5 Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | you can get a fully integrated, MFD controlled, Sirius tuner/emulator for less than $100 to $150. It's the Toy-Sc1/Scc1 combo. And you don't even have to "take your dash apart". Simple remove your glovebox, and temporarily displace a harness to access the back of your radio to plug it in. Don't waste your time and money on anything else. Do a search for a great thread on it;s install. |

My Car: 2008 Prius Package: N/A Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | Just wanted to say THANKS to all you Prius do-it-yourselfers - lots of great information on this board. I went to Best Buy and had them install my TOY-SC1/SCCI, rather than take the time to do it myself. Am very satisfied - the unit cost me around $150, and Best Buy charged $65 to install it. MUCH better than having my Toyota dealer charge me $900 for the same thing. Thanks everyone - even though I didn't do it myself, I learned a LOT about how the car is put together from all of your expertise! |
