Default Installing the antenna on a Sirius Satellite Radio/Audiovox

I just got the car kit for a Audiovox Plug N Play Sirius Satellite Radio and according to the instructions, you're supposed to run the cable from the antenna underneath the rubber molding of the trunk window. Only problem is there is no rubber molding on the window of a Prius. So has anyone successfully installed a similar (Sirius or XM) antenna setup and how did you accomplish it?

Yes, I looked at this when considering ordering external Sirius or XM box.

The other concern is how do you get the cable back there - if you have the curtain air bags, you can not run it above the doors because it would probably obstruct the air bags - how do you get the cable there then? Is it long enough to run it under the carpet?

The installler I used mounted the antenna on the front of the roof. The antenna wire runs though the firewall at some point, I don't know where exactly as I didn't watch the install. See pictures of my install in my album here.

Interesting stuff, Peter. Am I right or did your installers put the antenna wire and slid it thru the windshield on the front? On my instructions for the Audiovox they have it sliding thru the back. Thus the trunk window reference.

I'm not sure where exactly the antenna wire enters the car, somewhere along the windshield though. I'll try take a closer look at it today. I had wanted them to install it in front of the AM/FM antenna but they warned me that opening up the base there could lead to leaks. The audiovox instructions are just a guide, you can put the antenna anywhere, the "rat tail" is there so that you have the 6' of metal around the antenna to help reception. Someone here on this BBS put their XM antanna inside the spoiler, I guess you could also do this with the Sirius antenna if you have one of the newer low profile types. If you haven't already checked, you can find a ton of Sirius specific info at:
