How to reattach rear floor board (over HV batts)?

On the weekend I made the mistake of putting a bag with two bottles of red wine in the trunk, where I thought they wouldn't roll. I was wrong - they did, and the neck broke off one. The main puddle was on the rear floor board over top of the HV battery area. I was able to remove the floor board for cleaning, but am unsure of how to clip it back in.

Three white clips remain in the metal cover over the batteries. These are supposed to fit into U-shaped slots on the bottom of the plastic floor board, but one U is in the opposite direction of the others, so I can't just slide the board onto the clips, and I don't think it is meant to be pressed down on top of them.

I think I need to pull out the clips, put them into the right U's (marked with red marker from original assembly) and then press the board down. But I haven't been able to get the white clips out of the metal, even when pressing the center and trying to pull up the outside edges.

Any suggestions?

Also, the carpet lifted a bit off the plastic in one corner. It seems the factory used a red glue. Any suggestion for an adhesive to re-glue that corner of the carpet?

Yes, I had been thinking of getting a cargo mat before, and am thinking even more about that now!

The upholstery absorbed most of the wine that escaped, though some found it's way down to the spare tire well. So got the spare out for the first time, and inflated it from 40 to 60psi.

File not found. I have the repair manual, do you have the manual page number? It is probably in section 21, so the page number should be 21-xxx

OK, sounds like you are talking about rear floor board #1 referred to in page 21-55. Not much to it, 5 clips and the 2 bolts holding the rings.
From the looks of the inset, it seems the clips are supposed to be installed into the floor board first, then pressed into the battery.

Yes, that's the part, floor board #1, and we were both right - the clips need to be pulled out and put in the floor board before pressing the floor board down on the metal HV battery pack cover.

I tried getting out the clips, but was worried I would break them. Around the time you posted I visited a mechanic friend who snapped the 3 white clips out with a tool like a nail puller: a handle with a bent V at the end. A bit of a push to get the clips into the U's on the bottom of the floor board, then very easy to snap it down onto battery cover.

He suggested any glue ought to work for re-gluing the corner of the carpet to the plastic floor board. I tried some 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive we had on hand, and it has worked, even though I think a lot just soaked up into the carpet.

Does the service manual suggest a glue for attaching the carpet?

FYI, for the wine we used soda water blotted up by paper towel. About 2L (a very little at a time) and a roll. I also used a steam cleaner shop vac attachment on the floor board pieces. There is no stain or smell left.

No, they don't mention anything about gluing the carpet. The repair manual doesn't get that nitty gritty. It hardly says anything about re-installing the parts, assumes the removal details are enough unless there's something really special. I had to guess at the clips based on the same description you have.

Where did you get the repair manual and how much is it. Would you recommend it to any Prious owner?

I downloaded all them itty bitty PDF files, and assembled them using a trial version of Adobe Acrobat. Some have pointed out applets available out there that will pull the files for you automatically. I suspect the applet looks for the link URLs embedded within your initial download, and pulls them down recursively.
You can also get the owner's manual, nav manual, New Car Features (has a bit more engineering info), TSBs, campaigns and accessory install notes. Don't forget the wiring diagram also. All these easily will fit in about 100 meg space, so I carry it on my flash drive. The PDFs make searching for info much easier than a printed manual.
