When I push on the brake pedal, it makes a tone from, I think, the front right side. It's muffled, but it's not a scraping noise... it's like that sound a heart monitor makes when someone "flatlines" on tv.

And it doesn't seem to be related to actual braking; I can just be sitting at a light and if I press down on the pedal a little harder, it makes the tone again. I can sit there and make the sound over and over by squeezing the pedal.

Any guesses what this is? Something I should be worried about?

is this a new sound you've never heard before? how long have you had your car?

hmm, the car makes a lot of strange noises. there's that whining sound of the regen braking, the abs pump makes kind of a rapid ticking sound, lots going on with the brakes.

if you haven't seen any dash indicator lights come on, you likely don't have to worry.

i hear the ABS pump when i push harder on the brakes but it sounds like a ticking noise to me... but years of rock n roll music might explain that

check your door pockets... I had this problem when I got my car... my dad stuck two water bottles in the side door handles.... and well. yeah, that was the source of the noise.

I've had the car for about 20 months and have noticed the sound for a month or two. I know what you mean about the regen and pump noises, but this is definitely a different sound. The thing that's so weird is that I can be in Park and still make the noise when I push the pedal.

I think I know what sound he's talking about. It's the one where the brake pump releases pressure. I think Dan can shed more light on this sound as I can't remember the full details.

Has it been cold there in Dallas? My '04 makes a squeak when I go to cold weather. Freezing.

Nope, not that cold in Dallas (ever.) Technically, it started during warmer times.

That would be more of a hissing sound.

I have heard a faint squeal once when the car was off for a while. I think it might have been the AC system settling.

I have the same problem. Weird (honking) noise when the car isn't moving and the brake pedal is depressed...apparently I am pressing the pedal down too hard. I took the car in for service and they didn't find anything....but then again they didnt find the broken arm rest either...so I dont know how sharp these guys are. I don't fully buy it since I have had my prius for about 4 months and put about 10,000 miles on it and didn't have that problem until a couple of weeks ago. Did I suddenly start braking different? I don't think its the cold weather. 70 degrees may be chilly in Miami, but I don't think my Prius could be that sensitive. Anyone have an update on the problem or anyone get it fixed???
