Hey p626808, if you have to fork up out-of-pocket for the new one
and wind up with the failed one sitting around, would you be willing
to donate it to the research project on why they fail and how to
fix them? Or possibly dig into it yourself if you're into
electronics and such, using some of the ideas that have been floated
here and elsewhere on it?

I sent an e-mail to toyota as well.. asking why a recall has not been done on the MFD.

there response..

Because there is no recall on the display...

That is what the e-mail said was the problem? that there is no recall..
And they don't know if one will ever be done..

So much for a good answer..

This just happened to my late 05 Prius with about 27000 miles on it. So still under warranty.

"air conditioner disconnected"; says radio off when it's on; 5 second lag on buttons; no data on milage screen; etc.

Is there nothing I can do beyond bringing it in?

Nope, take it in....kind of odd though, did you '05 toggle b/w INFO and Consumption with the info button on the steering wheel? I haven't heard of failures of the same type with the newer MFD.

Don't believe I have an info button...was this a feature on an earlier model?
I have a DICE unit plugged into my changer port. Hope this didn't contribute to this, or void my warranty...

Ah... The DICE is the likely culprit. Unplug the dice (not from the back of the stereo, just the main plug on the DICE box itself). See if that fixes it....it causes all kinds of problems.

What I meant with the INFO button (which all 2nd gen Prii have) is whether by pushing the one on the steering wheel if the MFD cycled b/w the Consumption and Energy screen. On the old (faulty) MFD pushing the INFO button did not cycle b/w the two (it just returned you to either the Energy or Consumption screen if you were on something else (like MAP). The new and improved MFD will cycle b/w the two each time you push the INFO button.

If your still willing to give the old one to Hobbit, I can pick it up on my block heater trip and drop it off with him.
