I have a 2005 Prius. I push the start button and when I drop the Joystick into D, The following message comes up. : Caution, Please press P to engage Park. The batteries will not be charged if the transaxle in in neutral" It doesn't do it when the stick is in R, Only gets the message when the stick is pushed to D.

The indicator next to the speedometer indicates D not the screen still reads as above.

Any ideas before I bring it to the dealer?

Thanks

Yeah.. check to make sure none of your doors (in particular the driver's door) is not opened.

is the little door ajar light in the dashboard on? do the lights stay on when you close the door? if the door is actually closed it could be the door switch.
