Question

I'm really spooked with the "best deal possible" devils whispering in my ear.

I just received an Internet Out-the-Door quote from a local dealer for a 2007 Prius Touring with Package HG #2 for $23,128.76.

I'm in central Virginia.

Whaddaya think?

Welcome to the site. You need to itemize the numbers. What is the price for the base car, options, and destination charge from the sticker? Are there any dealer profit add-ons? Did you consult www.carbuyingtips.com and look for the invoice prices? Do you know how much your DMV charges for its fees? If the dealer wants extra money to process the paperwork that you can do yourself for free tell him you'll walk.

Get internet quotes from several dealers for the same car.

For example, in NJ it costs $20 to transfer plates. My dealer said the DMV transfer fee is $75.

By one calculation $22660 is a fair price for the car. Good luck & keep us posted.

Thanks Jim!

$23128.76 is total out-the-door. Cash. No trade-in.The breakdown for TTL is as follows: 195 processing fee, 670.92 sales tax, 44.34 gross receipt tax, 49.50 dmv title & plates.

If I screw up on this my wife's gonna kill me and anyone else she can get her hands on. :0)

Someone pointed me to Edmunds.com to check out Edmunds the other day and I found it a valuable tool for research. It will tell you invoice price, MSRP, "what other people are paying", etc.

Thanks for the Edmunds.com info, Boulder Bum (Boulder, Colorado? Beautiful place.)

I checked and Edmunds.com shows $23,837 excluding TTL. So it's lookin' okay...as long as the sales rep honors his out-the-door price of $23,128.

Hi Noel,
When we bought 2 #2pkg models in the last week of Feb. Edmunds said invoice was 22K even (few dollars more).
Showed this to both dealers and that was the price we paid. That included the $630 delivery fee. The dealers printed invoice, for our area, said $22.3.
"Out the door" is tough to compare. The Calif Tax and Lic are quite expensive. Our "total cash price" (on sales form) was right at 24K.
Your area invoice may be different.
I'm talking pkg #2--VSC,Camera, Side/seat bags, smart key, mats and ??. But NO bluetooth, nav etc.
Hope this helps,
Carl
