I purchased a #2 from Walnut Creek Toyota for $21,688 last weekend (price included the factory floormats). They had 51 Prius' in stock. Concord Toyota is selling #2's for $21,400, but they did not have the color I wanted. These are the prices through the internet sales department.

Back in January they had about that many for each of the three packages they were selling. I found out why -- their advertised prices are still quite high compared to what you can get elsewhere.

I expect the same is still the case. Take their number, ask other dealers, and see how low you can go.

I'm certain that Sunnyvale Toyota's advertised price is not the best you can get. However, I was struck by the regional differences in availability. Reading PriusChat would give you the impression lately that Priuses were not available at any price. Clearly that's not the case here in the SF/SJ area where Prius is the number one selling car. Pricing is still competitive here, too.

I wonder if Toyota has been purposely allocating extra cars to specific regions to satisfy some marketing strategy?

The Prius inventories around the Washington DC area have declined significantly since March/April. Back then most dealers have 70-120 on their lots. Now, most dealers have about 20 or so -- many with fewer than that -- additionally, the prices are back at about where MSRP is rather that being able to get them at or below invoice.
