I don't think Toyota USA would like to hear that their dealers are price gouging. If you have been taken like this, please be sure to slam them in the dealer survey Toyota sends to every new owner. |

My Car: 2005 Prius Package: #6 Nominated 2 Times in 1 Post TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | I bought my 2005 #6 Prius in December 2004. At that time, demand was much higher than supply. Dealers in New York and Boston were charging $2,000 to $4,000 over sticker. Plus there was often a 6 to 10 month wait time. Things cooled down for a while. But now rising gas prices are pushing demand over supply. As a result, the mark ups are returning. The strategy I used back then, might work for others now who don't want to pay more than sticker. A Prius expert at Westboro Toyota (Gilles LaBelle, Westboro, MA) searched the dealer network and found exactly what I wanted (blue, #6) at a dealer in Evansville, Indiana (Kenny Kent). I wired the money to the dealer, flew out there, and drove the car home. I got exactly what I wanted for sticker price, without waiting. |

Walk-ins were over MSRP. Anything is worth what someone is willing and able to pay for it. If you don't like the price wait for the new supply. Would you be happier if Toyota raised the MSRP by $3000? Read CarBuyingTips.com new car buying guide, avoiding dealer scams, new cars, used car buying. |

My Car: Other Non-Hybrid Package: N/A Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | I emailed and spoke to the internet department for almost every dealership in my area including Tustin Toyota, North Hollywood Toyota and Power Toyota of Irvine. They all quoted me $3000-$5000 over MSRP in their email quotes. So I decided that it might be better to go into a dealership and see if I can work a deal but they were asking for the same thing. The only dealer that would sell for MSRP was Longo Toyota. They gave me the quote via email and I verified over the phone. When I emailed all the dealers in my area no one except for Tustin Toyota had Prius's in stock. They all told me that it would be about a month until they get new inventory. The prices that they quoted me were for Prius that they didn't even have in stock but for future shipments. They all told me that I would have to put a deposit down or risk not being able to get one when the new cars arrived. Trust me I spent weeks trying to find a good deal on a Prius and was willing to wait a month or 2 but NO ONE except for Longo was willing to sell the Prius without an additional markup in my area. |

My Car: Other Non-Hybrid Package: N/A Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | Why would I be happier if Toyota raised their prices? The point of this thread is to let people know that their is an honest Toyota dealer in Southern California. And to also let people know who they should not buy a Toyota from, at least the Prius. Consumers should be warned about crooked dealers so 1) they don't have to waste their time 2) so that these dealers can't charge these outrageous prices. I would never pay over MSRP for any car. And if someone is willing to pay over MSRP they are either very rich and don't care or they are just misinformed. |

Of course, when I bought mine last month, dealers were willing to make deals. I just got 10+ quotes from Socal and Norcal dealers. Try Simi Valley and Hamer Toyota. Good luck! |
