Barely, Don Davis in Arlington is the only dealership that would start off with MSRP price, all others wanted a premium (that I called anyway) but you can twist their arm into MSRP if they have something on the lot (see above). That then means that if you are ordering your car - you are mostly out of luck.

When I was at Dallas Auto Show last Friday, there was a TON of people checking the Prius out, and I told everyone I could that if they are buying, to call around out of DFW as DFW stealerships are charging anywhere from $1500 to $5000 premium.

I am in Dallas and ended up buying my 05 from Ehrlich Toyota in Colorado. MSRP, very nice and helpful. They shipped it to me for $500, but were willing to meet me at the Denver airport if I wanted to fly in and get the car.

I gave up on the Dallas area dealers, but I did really like Durant Toyota in Weatherford. Not all that far. They were willing to order at MSRP and delete port added options. Same with Messer Toyota in Lubbock.
Very nice folks. I just didn't want to wait so I found the car I wanted and bought it from Colorado.

The Dallas area dealers are dreaming and, as a result, don't sell many and don't get many.

here is my experience.

I called most every DFW area dealer just looking for a vehicle to test drive.

Finally Toyota of Dallas caleld back and said they had two on the lot.

we for test drive.

It was a #3 package from the factory, but distributor added option so it was basically a #5 package. MSRP was something like $25,400.

then there is a "Dealer Market Surcharge" = $6000. No joke.

they wanted to sit down and discuss what it would take to get me in the car today. I told them "drop the $6K and give minimum trade-in value according to NADA book for my Maxima and I'll buy it today".

They offered to take $200 - that $200 off the $6000.

laughed and walked out. they called me a hour later - hung up on them.

have not reformulated another plan - but was considering trying Cali - anybody got a better idea?

I just got my new Prius from Toyota of Lewisville on 4/26/05  . I am not sure if they had any more on the lot but I think they told me they were getting another shipment that is due to arrive in early May. They started asking for 4000 over MSRP and a very low trade in for my old car. I told them that I wanted the minimum trade-in value for my current car and would only pay MSRP. After we were done I got the min trade-in value and payed 400 over MSRP but they through in window tinting (normally 275) so I felt like I got a goot deal beacuse I was able to drive off the lot the same day, no waiting.

Call Star Toyota in Abilene and see if they still have one available. There were also a few in Houston due in soon and unclaimed. If you really want the car, call 40 dealerships in Texas. If that doesn't work, try a few in New Mexico and Colorado.

I got mine from Gene Messer Toyota in Lubbock. I dealt with Charlie - (800)682-4300. About $700 under MSRP and free delivery to Austin.

A guy at work ordered from Toyota of Richardson a couple of weeks ago. Initial quote was 90 days. He got a call on Wednesday that they found one matching his order and he picked it up on Thursday. He said he paid flat MSRP and he bought the extended warranty. He didn't say what he paid for that or if he got stuck with a port package.

The good news is that there is a DFW area dealership charging MSRP and getting a vehicle quickly.
