A local new show did a piece on plastic bags and they discussed the recycling chain on these items. The most surprising thing to me was that the majority of these bags are shipped to China for recycling. Energy intensive, they are.

Technically, its called Brown's Gas but in the internet vernacular people are calling it HHO. There is a belief that if you create a device to generate HHO (usually involving stainless steel, a mason jar, and vacuum tubing) you can increase the fuel economy of your SUV by >25%.

Here is a thread on it: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=217491

I ask that you only observe; please don't harass these people, and don't bother pointing out that the thermodynamics are not favorable, I (and others) already did that somewhere in the thread.

Yeah, for a long time, our county recycling program would not accept plastic bags. Just recently, they changed their policy; they will accept plastic bags, but only if they are packaged within a clear plastic bag. So you must go buy clear plastic bags in order to recycle your plastic bags.

Their excuse in the past was that it was not cost effective to recycle plastics other than Type 1 and 2 narrow necked bottles. This is a pet peeve of mine: I don't separate and recycle because it is cost effective to do (it's not if I value my time). I recycle because it is the right thing to do.
