Default HP's plan to fix ailing planet

A pretty strange new world we are entering...

Hewlett Packard is up to two years away from starting to build a "central nervous system for the Earth", known as CeNSE.
...And just as a doctor would use a barrage of tests to find out what ails a patient, so Dr Williams believes he and HP can do the same in finding out what is going wrong with our environment and offering solutions to problems before they turn into disasters.
Dr Williams suggested that, instead of wielding a stethoscope, HP would use trillions of sensors to monitor the health of the Earth and use the information to head off natural calamities such as large scale flooding or wildfires.

The ubiquitous sensors would mimic human senses such as touch, smell, hearing, sight and taste...

Because direct human intervention has never gone awry.

The article was high on the hype and short on the actual sensor description. It did point out that "someone" has to pay for it. Hmmm, I see a problem.

Nothing like promising the impossible to make a sales pitch.

To bad that a potentially good concept is over-hyped to the point of having to ignoring it.

We already have such sensors, meters, and dataloggers all over the earth. They are used by individuals and organizations or government entities. The only difference is they are not being fed into once computer.

Maybe they can direct funding to these organizations? I could use some extra cash for monitoring my vernal pool dataloggers this winter. Well, after I purchase the materials to build them that is.

Yes, and Exxon Mobile, according to their commercials, are environmentalists. Like ALL corporations, they are about increasing stockholder value - all else comes in a very distance 2nd place.

/and that formula works as long as you have real government oversight
