It could be worse. I have my big DLP TV with the high wattage projection bulb, the digital cable box that works like a toaster even in standby, a PS3 with its cell processor, the seven channel A/V amp, and last but not least the 1000 W subwoofer amplifier. I like winter because I can justify all of the heat.

Worse than blue tooth, is wifi / web browsing. My PDA's 400mhz processor can suck the life out of the mongo oversized battery in less than an hour . . . but in a way it's still green . . . cuz it recharges via solar. Only difference is, the solar is on my roof
Then there's the sun's deadly work on plastic. No such thing as non-photochemically reactive plastics. The up side is, who keeps a cel phone for more than 2 or 3 years now days? And those poor graveyard working slobs, they're s.o.l. ... can you tell that I hated working graveyard? End of tangent.

and whatever happened to that anyway??

there was a Japanese company developing microturbines that were to run on butane. they were to generate electricity and initial project design was for laptops and later cellphones. the advantage was that you would never be without power since you would recharge then as easily as refilling a butane lighter.

oh well, sounded too good to be true i guess

I knew it was too good to be true. Just with a few beers and my secret, sinister "secret recipe" chili concoction, I had a "perpetual motion" energy source

How about eliminating the battery altogether through the use of piezoelectric energy harvesting? These materials generate electricity through vibrations (and to a much lesser extent through pyroelectricity). Here's a link discussing recent research results as presented last week.

i used to have one of those "self winding" wrist watches when i was a kid....

now maybe that would work... just need to install one of those vibration proof hard drives, or better yet!! just get flash memory instead... uses waaay less power..

probably could do for under $10,000!!
