Interesting idea. Now you need a hat with a holder so that your phone can get sun, except that would put the cellphone next to your head all of the time.

I applaud the concept, even if some of the details are dubious. From a functional standpoint, it would be nice to have solar charging for camping and boating, but I think it would be difficult to get sun on the PV panel, since phones get tucked away.

Cool idea. Should work fine if you're like me and use the phone on the way to- and coming home from- work. Obviously it wouldn't keep the charge while in a call but if there's enough sunlight between calls, it should work.

I think one would clearly need to get into the habit of laying the phone down face-down. And I, too, would like to see a feature list. I suspect it may not have BlueTooth since that takes so much energy.

well that would be cool, except i use BT nearly all the time, so unless im in my car, i always have it in my pocket (saves me from leaving it somewhere...something that i did have to contend with more than a few times!!)

Bluetooth likely will be included since that is a very popular feature these days. Sure, BT will suck the battery down faster, but then again, if you're a chronic phone user, the solar cells aren't going to help you much anyway.

Very cool. I'll be watching for this to come out. Samsung is also coming out with a greener hi-def tv this year. They claim it uses up to 40% less energy than a hi-def lcd or plasma. Lcds and plasmas are energy hogs.

Too bad it wasn't powered by methane. I do know that when I make my "special recipe" chili, I could easily power my entire house just on my gas production

I'm pretty sure if my "special recipe" chili concoction fell into the hands of terrorists, our way of life would be over

My new 42" samsung flat lcd uses ~1/3 the power of the previous 30" crt it replaced,,, while on. The lcd uses less than 1 watt when off,,, compared to 35watts for the crt. So I don't believe that size for size that Lcd's are energy hogs per sey.

I suppose the current crop of LCD tv's are energy hogs, compared to proposed developments. I just like not having to lug around what is - in essence - a giant vacuum tube
