Friends: 4 | As we decrease our 'carbon footprint', I keep asking myself how low is low. The lower bound is one place to start; that is, the amount of CO2 emitted by a person breathing. In an earlier thread we came up with 750 pound a year. I was curious what this comes out to as the equivalent of a household electrical device, and came up with 44 watts. I find this number useful, since it can be used as follows: The fan currently keeping me comfy is a 33 watt device (thanks, kill-a-watt). So I am adding 3/4 of a person on to the planet while using the fan. Speeding down the highway takes about 20 kW, or 454 people. My fridge is about two people worth. |
