This is shocking and appalling. I hope one of the news television stations investigates and airs an hour special on this. I have read Mother Jones magazine before and I believe this is credible. Read this...

Ditto. Filter your tap water if you don't like it. I don't like chloramine, so that's what I do. The energy and materials involved in bottling and shipping water are a tiny fraction of US consumption, but they are completely unnecessary. I'm not normally not so judgmental but these days every time I see somebody buying a case of bottled water my only thought is, "idiot".

Then again, apparently Fiji water bills itself as "environmentally friendly bottled water". So, clearly, their target market IS idiots.

I recently started drinking bottled water again... it's in my refrigerator, chilled and fresh when I want it. When I have to go somewhere for a couple of hours, I put a couple of bottles in my cooler with a chillpack so I don't have to buy a beverage elsewhere. It's always tasty, fresh, and chilled when I want it, and I'm so glad I started drinking bottled water again.

I used to drink bottled water, but the whole business with using plastic just turned me off. So I put a filter on my refrigerator and the water tasted better but it was never quite chilled enough. I don't care for ice in the water either, and I wasn't about to put a big pitcher in the fridge with limited space, spilling, etc.

I also don't care for the nalgene controversy, and the stainless steel bottles leave a metallic after taste, so those are a no-go, too...

The best solution for my bottled water dilemma is to acquire some of those terrific glass bottles used for either iced tea or whatever. Most are wide-mouth enough that if you want to put some ice in there, you can... but if you do like me and fill a half-dozen bottles or so and put it in the fridge, then it doesn't matter.

Glass... it's clean, recyclable, easy to clean and has been around for a century or more. I usually use one or two bottles per day (and just refill), same as if I was using a glass, except it's more convenient and travels better.

16oz is the perfect size, though it's easy to find glass juice bottles in the 32oz size, the same size most nalgene and stainless bottles are. I encourage anyone to give it a try... filtered tap water in glass bottles, chilled. I'm working on my housemate, but she is stuck on her plastic (ugh) though they are the reusable kind but doesn't clean as well as the glass.
