Friends: 0 | Anyone else waiting for the Nissan EV (sized between a Versa and Sentra) or the Ford Focus BEV? They'll both get about 100 miles per charge and cost about $20-30K. This press release is more or less trying to get you to buy the new Prius and not wait. Both are coming out in 2011. With Obama and Chu in power, there's reason to be optimistic. Friends: 0 | It looks like the Ford in your link is a gasoline car. As for the Nissan, I have high hopes that Nissan will actually sell an EV. Nissan looks like the only major auto maker that really intends to market an EV. I hope it really does materialize. But until it's on the car lots and you can buy one and drive it away, it's all still just promises. And promises won't buy you a postage stamp. |

Friends: 0 | Okay. It maybe might get an electric power train that Ford might possibly develop. Maybe. Some day. Though they have not decided. And Ford has not actually said. And the reporter is speculating. If I speculate that Honda might maybe possibly build an electric version of the Civic, does that count as news? Sorry. I don't mean to be snarky. It's just that I'm tired of car companies announcing EVs that never happen. And a reporter's speculation is even further down the slope. |

Friends: 0 | If Secretary Chu decides to lend Ford money for the EV but not GM for the Chevy Volt, there's something there. Is CNN speculating as well? Ford turns to a supplier to build an electric car - Mar. 20, 2009 "The electric Ford Focus, due out in early 2011, is largely the product of Canada-based auto parts and assembly supplier Magna International (MGA)." There's loads of news links that can't all be "speculating" about the same thing. And a piece of advice...if you don't mean to be snarky, don't be snarky. It's that simple. It's fine to be suspicious of a car company when they say "EV," but that's like telling me what you ate today. Nobody cares. There will always be people out there that don't trust this or that. It's fine, but it's not really an informative post. |

Friends: 0 | The Red Queen tells Alice that as a queen, she'll have jam yesterday and jam tomorrow, but never jam today. That's like EVs from the major auto makers: They offered us EVs yesterday, and they promise us EVs tomorrow, but they'll never sell us EVs today. I think Nissan might be the exception. But the major American makers have no credibility as far as I'm concerned. |
