PriusChat rocks!

Amazing this hasn't been a topic yet, but I hope you don't need to know for the same reason I did-- spilled milk under the seat. We needed to clean deeply and thoroughly, so I removed the front passenger seat. In a thread on extending seat rails, I found this link to a Toyota service manual with all the pages on removal, disassambly, reassembly and install of the front seats.
http://jaygroh.dreamhost.com/prius/P...20-%20Seat.pdf

The hardest part is disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal on the accessory battery. The glovebox owners manual shows the location, in the rear to the right of the spare tire well. Getting your #10 wrench on the nut is the hard part. I wished I had a stubby open end. Can't fit a socket wrench in there. Be sure to wait for two minutes after disconnecting the battery before working on the seat bolts and disconnecting the two wiring harnesses under the seat.

ScanGauge II fillup reset do it or not (for relative MPG tracking)?

I have been diligently recording the average trip MPG and other trip parameters reported by ScanGauge II at the end of each trip. I never reset the MFD MPG - I want to use it as a lifetime MPG estimator (in addition to calculating total miles divided by total fuel pumped). So I use the ScanGauge trip MPG to give me feedback on fuel economy for each trip.

At each fillup the ScanGauge II has been quite accurate in determining the fuel used so I didn't have to change the amount of fuel added - until the last tank, ScanGauge thought I used 8 gal. but I could only pump in 7.8 gal (this was after the auto shut off, I pumped again and soon afterward it auto shut off again. In the past I never pumped again after auto shut off). This maybe the first encounter of the notorious bladder problem for me.

My question is how does the ScanGauge II calibrates itself with the fillup data. Does it remember all the previous fillup data or just the last fillup? In the former case I think it is better to enter the fillup data and the noise introduced by the bladder problem will be averaged out, but in the latter case it may be better not to enter the fillup data so that we can avoid the noise introduced by the bladder problem (and pump variation for that matter).

I've been consistently having problems with the voice activation on one particular command - "Phone". Each time I say "phone" the voice command system activates "Satellite Radio". These don't sound remotely close, but it happens consistently. It's very frustrating especially when it is the only way to access phone numbers not in the recent contacts list while driving.

I've tried altering my voice level, I've changed it to "Telephone", I've just used the "F" sound....but 9 out of 10 times I get "Satellite Radio".

Has anyone had this problem? Thanks for whatever help and suggestions you've got!

I installed a 2DIN aftermarket stereo and in the process I had to remove the dash to install the GPS antenna.

After putting it all together, I get a consistent 'Check Hybrid System' warning which won't go away. Also the Airbag Light is on.

I did remove the right window pillar to get at the right speaker, but I never unplugged anything in there or touched the airbag. Does anyone know why this would happen and how to reverse it?

Does the system need to have its airbag switch reset? I seriously doubt I damaged anything in the installation. I was very careful.

Thanks for the help!!

Every time I start up my 07 Prius, I do this in order:
1. Brake peddle pushed in,
2. Push 'Start' button,
3. Release parking brake,
4. Shift into gear & go.

I'm pretty sure when I release the p. brake I get this really strange noise. Like a chirping (maybe 3-4 times), but kind of matches a sound when you shut down the car. I had the parking brake adjusted a while back and it when away, then it started up again, little by little, until it's very noticeable. I had the dealer look at it just before the warranty ran out, but of course it didn't (hardly) make the sound. Maybe just a 1/4 sec sound, just once and he didn't hear it :( go figure!

Anyone know what this could be? Maybe I should do a sound bite with my camera.. lol

I got my V/ATP Oct. 10. It has 1900 miles on the meter by now.

This moring, when I drove on a school campus at about 5MPH, it suddenly showed "PCS" (pre-collision brake system) warning on the display. The Nav. screen was replaced by the message in a rectangular frame. I could still drive the car. I then drove it very slowly toward the parking lot, which is 100 yards away. Before I reached the parking, the warning disappeared.

Has anyone seen this before? Should I be concerned and go to the service department?

2. Also listed under maintenance and care, page 401, do not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window as it may cause damage to the heater wires. It says to just use lukewarm water and wipe the glass parallel with the heater wires. **To those who have tinted windows, carry on but make sure you are using a non-ammonia based window cleaner!:)

I picked up my '10 Prius on May 16, 2009. It's been an interesting 7+ months, especially after life with a luxury SUV. On the whole, I'm very happy with my car. A few random observations:

• Too many rattles. My car (package III with navigation) rattles like crazy, especially on the freeway. It sounds like it's coming from the glove box, but it's in the dashboard and not something I've put inside the glove box.

• Even with its factory tires, it handles Portland, OR's rain and wet leaves like a charm. We have not had snow yet.

• I do not take extraordinary measures to maximize my fuel economy. On a typical tank in the warmer months, I got 47-49 MPG. On a 1200 round trip drive between Portland, OR and Missoula, MT, we averaged about 52. The more highway miles we drive, the better our fuel economy. I suspect it's because here at home, I drive very short distances and the car never gets a chance to hit its stride. I don't know if this is because of changes in weather or fuel, but I noticed a sharp decline in fuel economy in November. It's been as low as 42, and it takes some effort to hold at 45-46.

• Blizzard Pearl hides dirt better than I'd expected. It hides it better than flat white, anyway.

• I used 89 octane in the beginning because my manual said 88 minimum. Then I learned from Toyota that 87 is fine. I switched to regular, and I would swear my fuel economy creeped down a little immediately.

• Absolutely no mechanical problems at all. Except for the rattles and cheap interior trim (I wanted leather and package V, but the III was the first off the truck, it had the nav that I needed and the color I wanted, and I took what I could get) I have no complaints about my car.
