Just got done with 2.5 days in Dubai (quite a bit of time spent on a double-decker bus tour) and we noticed early-on that we could not spot a single prius (no matter the generation) among the thousands of cars we saw in Dubai.

Guess it is not a popular car here in the middle east! :D

The reproductive habits of wire hangers

I don't know what sort of swinging parties they have in the closet. The other day, I decided to start clearing out my closet -- I say "start" because I still have a long way to go -- I had to give up because it initiated a 2-day sneezing fit. Anyway, I took about 25 wire hangers to recycle at the dry cleaners. This evening, I found about 16 more. I'm sure there are dozens more but I haven't checked out all the other closets yet.

How do these things reproduce?

Picture time. Taken a couple hours ago, and just a few minutes old. Here's our 25 year old's handywork (oh, and our son in law's too):

Just over nine pounds ... taking 22 hours of labor ... natural birth. Still no name (and they're not telling what the 2 name/options are yet). He was a full 2 weeks late. We were back in Nashville for 10 days to be there at the delivery but missed it. We'll be back in less the 2 weeks. Feelin' a little misty here ... and old.

Any plumbers want to advise a DIYer?

Hey, I know professional plumbers hate DIYers (and I don't blame them, I hate fixing other people's mistakes too), but I am on a tight budget and need a bit of advice. I'm doing a kitchen remodel, and I just cut the hole in the ceiling for the range vent ductwork. Of course, with my luck, directly across that hole is a cold water line that feeds a pot filler behind the stove. The line drops into the wall behind the stove through a hole drilled in the top plate, so pushing the pipe to one side or the other is not an option. I have to find a way to re-route the line around the opening for the range hood ductwork. All of the lines in my house are ZURN-PEX, and I'm aware of the poor reputation of the product. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to have all of my lines replaced. My plan is to use two angled "Sharkbite" fittings to re-route the pipe around the hole. Other than replacing all of the pipes in my house with copper, is this the most acceptable solution?

Pulled over in my Prius

It would have been comical and probably by tomorrow will be. After having just recieved a 300.00 ticket for turning right on a red, I am hard pressed to smile right this minute though.

I commute about 20 minutes from one town to another and so far have been "busted" twice on my way to work. If I didn't have a logistics issue with getting kids to school, making work meetings outside my building etc, I would just ride a bike.

I'm having a hard time comprehending what would modivate a cop to pull me over.
I drive like a grandma.
I'm in a prius.
I was doin 24 in a 25.

He really made a show of things too. TWO cops got out of the car, one going to the left of me and the other to the right. ( You can visualize it right? Me in my "bad boy" prius, surrounded by the coppers)
The second cop even had his hand resting lightly on his gun. :rolleyes:

Then he informed me that our conversation was being recorded. Mind you, at this point I had no clue why he pulled me over. Running through my mind were thoughts about escaped convicts in stolen prii. I swallowed hard and agreed to the recording then he launched into it. The reason he had pulled me over.

Apparently, it is illegal to pull into the far lane on a one way street when you turn left. AND...
If you happen to turn left, and turn into the correct closer lane BUT change lanes to soon, you are still in violation and are considered a bon-a-fide law breaker.

So that's my crime.

By the time I understood what he was telling me my infraction was, I could tell he was losing his conviction. He did howerver take all my information and go back to his car. Nice little adrenaline rush for me there, wondering if another bullchit $300 ticket was in my future.

Thankfully, he returned within a minute or two with the "this is your warning" speech.

I drove away wondering what on earth could have motivated 2 policemen to spend 20 minutes pulling me over in my Andy Griffith car.
All I can come up with is he wanted a closer look at the interior. They are fabulous cars you know!

Common Pain Relievers May Dilute Power of Flu Shots

Note, I am not a medical profession, this is my relaying of some science around flu treatments that I do not understand. I have not been personally effected by the flu.

I've been reading in various science site studies that show common medicines that lower fever - Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen are shown to lower the effectiveness of flu shots. Here is one such site;

Whenever I am able to get the H1N1 flu shot I'll keep this in mind.

I started wondering if lowering routine flu fevers is also not a good idea, the fevers inherently are part of our bodies attempt to fight an illness, not just an symptom to control. I started asking this question at other sites, and so far am not satisfied with the responses. I walked down the closest pharmacy isle, virtually every flu medicine I can buy has something that reduces fever. I am questioning that, but can't do a study , so I post.
