I want to stream live internet radio via a 3G connection to a Nokia N900, or a Motorola Droid and then via bluetooth 2.0 to the 07 Prius #2 stereo speakers while driving at around 65 mph.

Assuming that the phone is compatible with bluetooth, my earlier Nokia is, and assuming that a 3G connection is not a problem, in fact I am told that low quality MP3 can be transferred even at 2G speeds, I am being advised to check whether the buffer of the MP3 player is large enough for this to happen. Some say that other cars behind you get to listen to what you play at really high speeds.

Thoughts or experiences? What speeds will this work at?

Thanks,

Does anyone know where the control box for the DVD system is placed in the car? I called the dealer's service dept and they thought it was under the dash but I was looking for a more exact location and maybe a little more of a definitive answer as well.

I am looking at getting a used 2nd gen Prius. I've searched the forums and haven't been able to nail down an answer to the following: Is there a difference (other than packages) in the electronics between the 06-09 model year and the 04-05 models? I've read about changes in the touch screen unlockablity, etc. I'm wondering which to get.

Any light that can be shed on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, just wanted to make a thread where everyone who has an aftermarket head unit in their Prius could list it. Personally, I want to know what everyone has installed, what people like and dislike. Many people recommend installing a head unit in addition to the stock radio, I'm hoping this can be one thread where people can just list what they have (if it exists already, I haven't found it.)

So...what have you put in? and thanks!

I have been lurking and reading all of the audio upgrade threads that I can find that would apply and I have a couple of questions I hope folks can...

I have been lurking and reading all of the audio upgrade threads that I can find that would apply and I have a couple of questions I hope folks can help me out with. I have a 2009 Pkg.#2 non-JBL.

I definitely want to upgrade my front and rear speakers, I think I will pick out some component speakers like Boston Acoustic SC60 or something to that tune.

Question #1: Will any cheapo $50-80 pair of speakers suffice for the rear doors?

Question #2: You get 6-1/2 coaxial 2-ways, and I am guessing the smaller looking pieces are seperable tweeters? Do these go in the area along the door frame/windshield frame? Will Best Buy audio guys be able to figure this out?

Question #3: It sounds like I need an amp to get the most out of the speakers, is this true? I can probably dish out an extra $200 or so for an amp.

Question #4: If I need an amp, would I need a decent head unit to actually match the needs of the amp and speaker combination?

Question #5: If I get a new head unit, I would probably want to have it installed in the compartment beneath the stock head unit, will I still be able to control from the steering wheel?

Question #6: Do I really need all of this or should I just go with a simple front and rear door speaker upgrade, because I just really want louder cleaner music?

Question #7: Should I disconnect the center speaker dohickey and how do I go about doing that?

I listen to mostly live music, grateful dead, phish, parliament, etc. any speaker suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Okay I realize that is a lot to ask, any help is appreciated, if these questions have already been answered in another thread, let me know because I have been searching.

I'm at a complete loss here. I have searched and searched for this all over and the closest I have came is having to pay 5 bucks for manual which isn't going to happen. haha What I am doing here is trying to install a pair of subwoofers and an amp into my friend's 05 Prius. We need to get to the back of the head unit so we can wire tap the rear speakers for the amplifier (which has speaker level inputs). The only problem, is that I have no idea how to get back there and I have no idea where to start taking the thing apart. I don't have very much knowledge regarding the Prius so I figured I would come here and ask first. I don't know much about the car besides it's an 05 with leather interior and everything. I have a pic of the inside if that help in determining the specific model:

img690.imageshack.us/i/img0553.jpg/

So does anyone have any links to any guides or anything on how to get the head unit out? I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks,
Alex

Why is the 2010 Prius with NAV FM Radio reception so bad, it is like it is barely getting any signal with hiss and crackle and I live in the Philadelphia area, many strong stations, but stations I never had an issue with in any other car are poor reception in the 2010 Prius. Same in both my 2010 Prius with NAV and my wifes 2010 Prius with NAV. I am suspecting a poor antenna design or how the antenna/receivers couple with XM receivers/antenna. Audio through XM and Bluetooth is great, but there is no excuse for a 2010 Toyota to have this issue with FM reception.

I have a couple scangauge II (xgauge version) questions.

1. I have seen some threads about the optimal RPM's, and the consensus I gathered was that at 2000RPM's, the ICE is achieving its best fuel efficiency. Is this true, if not what should the target RPM's be?

2. Sometimes when I accelerate, the RPM's jump down from 2000 to 1000. Is this simply the ICE lowering its RPM's before it uses an assist from MG2?

3. I have an xgauge set for the fuel economy for a current trip (displays the MPG for the current trip). Sometimes, I will turn my Prius off and like usual, several seconds later the scanguage will turn off. If I come back to my Prius say, 2 mins later, and turn it on, it will still record the data from the previous trip. It has to be a considerable amount of time (not sure the exact number) before it will reset the data from the previous trip to make way for the current trip's information. Does anyone know the time that this usually is?

4. If you enter in the wrong fuel information (# of gallons or incorrect +/-%) when you fill up, are you pretty much SOL until the next time you fill up?

I have a couple more, but just can't think of them right now. Any information though would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

UK Spec GenII's do not have the 12v socket mounted on the lower dash panel, only the one fitted in the centre console.

I'm planning to fit two sockets on the panel where US spec models have theirs fitted but have two questions.

1. How is that panel removed?

2. Is there a convenient 12v feed I can tap into for the two sockets? I will be adding fuse protection but as we don't have the existing socket I wondered if there was an easy to reach/locate 12v supply or will I need to run one from the glovebox?

Just got my sirius installed by the Toyota Dealership.. well I got my car back and I still don't have sirius .. They did leave me a brand new dent in the roof of my car though....
anyway.. The radio will now switch to SAT 1,2,3 and it shows 184 on all the presets.. Next to the SAT1 it says no signal. It shows the channel name for a second sometimes but goes to "no signal" after a few seconds.. Sound never plays out of the speakers..I thought this was an antenna issue but I found where they installed the receiver and unplugged the antenna. When it is unplugged "antenna" flashes were it said "no signal". I unplugged and plugged back in the fit kit wire and it will show "weather channel'on 184.. or on 255 it will show "sirius SID" or at 000 it says" go to 255".. but that only lasts a few seconds and goes back to "no signal"

any ideas what is going on.. is this a receiver issue or cable issue..??
something is working as it shows the SAT 1,2,3 but no sound or anything on the 184 weather channels...

I have a friend who has an '05 Prius w/ 4.2 Nav. My friend is relatively non-technical, whereas I am relatively technical.

My goal is to update his Nav system for him to the most up to date available, while still maintaining the ability to read burned DVDs and bypass the inability to enter data while in motion.

I have a copy of his 4.2 disc and have saved his loading.kwi file for potential use in a 'Hybrid Disc".

My question is this:

What combination of data files and loading.kwi will give him the best bang for the buck?

He is not opposed to buying the newest update, but doesn't want to lose the ability to enter data while in motion. I would love to burn him a disc with this capability.

The real issue is that we're thousands of miles apart, so i'd like to give him a true plug and play experience. I'd love to burn a disc, send it to him and have it just work.

I've read that in some situations, it is necessary to temporarily pull the fuse for the Nav in order to rollback firmware. I'm sure that this would not be beyond him if that's part of the optimal solution, but anything more technical than that and it will require a visit.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.
