I heard it shows neat stuff about our cars and how to fix little things... Anyone ever owned these magazines? Are they in English?

I picked up my '10 Prius on May 16, 2009. It's been an interesting 7+ months, especially after life with a luxury SUV. On the whole, I'm very happy with my car. A few random observations:

• Too many rattles. My car (package III with navigation) rattles like crazy, especially on the freeway. It sounds like it's coming from the glove box, but it's in the dashboard and not something I've put inside the glove box.

• Even with its factory tires, it handles Portland, OR's rain and wet leaves like a charm. We have not had snow yet.

• I do not take extraordinary measures to maximize my fuel economy. On a typical tank in the warmer months, I got 47-49 MPG. On a 1200 round trip drive between Portland, OR and Missoula, MT, we averaged about 52. The more highway miles we drive, the better our fuel economy. I suspect it's because here at home, I drive very short distances and the car never gets a chance to hit its stride. I don't know if this is because of changes in weather or fuel, but I noticed a sharp decline in fuel economy in November. It's been as low as 42, and it takes some effort to hold at 45-46.

• Blizzard Pearl hides dirt better than I'd expected. It hides it better than flat white, anyway.

• I used 89 octane in the beginning because my manual said 88 minimum. Then I learned from Toyota that 87 is fine. I switched to regular, and I would swear my fuel economy creeped down a little immediately.

• Absolutely no mechanical problems at all. Except for the rattles and cheap interior trim (I wanted leather and package V, but the III was the first off the truck, it had the nav that I needed and the color I wanted, and I took what I could get) I have no complaints about my car.

I was carrying a large item yesterday and driving with the hatch open. I expected it to alert me to that in much the same way the seat belt alarm would have...but no. It just keeps beeping (it does however, stop while stopped). Is there a user defined "thing" to turn off the door ajar beep or at least make it a short series? I'm not really interested in pulling the fuse each time, but I don't drive this way often either. Thanks.

So this months poll is based upon the assumption that 15,000 Prius will arrive ... of course this is just a wild guess.

Has anyone else noticed a sudden increase in Gen III's running around? In the last couple weeks, I've been seeing a lot more. When I first got mine 4 months ago, I went weeks before seeing another. In the last 2 or 3 weeks, I've seen one every day. I even had someone park next to me today.

I'm in the San Jose area, by the way. We're up to our necks in Gen II's. It's not uncommon to see 3 or 4 stopped at a light.

Hi,

I am planning to buy a car soon and this would be my first car (new driver .. just passed the test). I am really interested in 2010 Prius and would like to get Prius III with Nav.

However, I am a bit concerned regarding the problems mentioned in the Problems Thread, especially the ones related to braking and rattle noises.

Can the 2010 Prius owners tell me if any of the concerns mentioned in the thread are serious enough for not buying it. Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

I just noticed in photos on the PriusChat Home page there is a holder for sunglasses in the ceiling just behind the buttons for the interior lights, but my 2010 (IV) doesn't have a holder. I really miss having a sunglasses holder, which was included in our 2007 basic model Prius. Does anyone know why I don't have one in my new car? There appears to be the same amount of space for one and it certainly wasn't offered as an option when I bought my car.

My Prius V-ATP was shipped/invoiced on 9/16/09.
I bought it on 11/2.

At pick-up, I was told it had the "latest navigation disc." But found out yesterday R2Pre2 has Nav v8.1 instead of the recently released Nav v9.1.

Yes, yes, I know there's a minuscule difference between the two versions. So nobody raz me about that. However, since my car was shipped/invoiced on 9/16, I was under the impression later models were shipped - or equipped - with the updated nav dvd.

When I nicely asked my salesman about swapping the old dvd for the new one, he deferred me to the service manager, saying he's not sure this could be done. So, I'm expecting some push-back now and want to arm myself with some "info-ammo" before going in on Saturday. :car:

Questions:
• Should my car have version 9.1 instead?
(if not, then I'll quietly fade away...)
• If it should have v9.1, what proof can I give the dealership to back this up?
• Is there any office Toyota language/documentation I can use?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated . . . . Thanks!

Lots of bugs on the front bumper. I washed it and 3 or 4 specs did not come out. They are road rash that has gone thru the paint and one on the hood. That black speck on white really bugs me. I refuse to use a bra. :D Has anyone tried touching up road rash with factory touch up paint? Does it just make it look worse? Maybe I should just leave it alone. I must comment that I love this car. It drives much quiter and smoother than I thought it would.
