I am trying to buy 15" alloy wheels to use with snow tires and need help understanding what specifications I should look for in terms of offset, backspacing, weight.

I saw a post from last month giving 2010 Prius wheel specs as 15x6J: 5x100mm PCD, 45 mm offset.

Tire Rack offers a number of different wheels they list as suitable for the 2010 Prius, but I'm wondering what's best, keeping performance, safety, gas mileage in mind.

Driving my Barcelona Red Prius 2010 (Basic Package) for two weeks. The seating and displays are great BUT seems that the designer did not drive the model on busy highways in Japan! While the roadview from the front windshield is great, view of the road from the rear windshield SUCKS!! The road appears narrow and obstructed. Thought it would improve by replacing the front shield mirror. Got a 15 inch no blind spot mirror from Hammacher. The bad view of the road remains bad!

Suggest that Prius designers be FORCED to drive the model on REAL highways and not just the Toyota parking lot. My second beef is the current unavailability of mudguards for Prius 2010. Hope they come on the market, before my Barcelona red is chipped away by flying road debris.

Hi all,

I'm a new 2010 Phase V owner (six weeks or so). My Prius has 17" low profile tires which I'm told don't have enough tread to grip when driving in snow. Do tire manufacturers make and sell low profile snow tires? Or, is there sufficient room in the wheel wells for standard snow tires? I have to pick up slugs to drive into D.C. each day and would like to minimize sliding around the many highway overpasses and bridges on I-95. Thanks for any input...

Hi folks,

I have a 2010 Phase V Nav Prius and cursiosity has gotten the best of me, so a few questions.

1) When viewing the one-minute mileage chart on the dash, does it actually keep track of second-by-second mileage and display the true average over the entire minute, or just display the current mileage at the moment the dash is updated?

2) Does using the Eco button actually increase the average mileage rate? It seems to me the button just prevents the engine from accelerating beyond the engine's available torque ability? (i.e. the car can only go so fast by pushing the gas pedal halfway; pushing it farther only wastes gas; the car can't go any faster).

3) Does anyone actually use the EV button when driving? I've had the car for six weeks now and today's the first time i tried using it. I commute 60 miles each way to/from D.C. and sit in quite a bit of traffic. I drove for nearly an hour today in stop and go traffic (below 25 MPH) and using EV, saw a dramatic increase in my average MPG numbers. Can this harm the car in any way. I assume the button's are available for this purpose?

Thanks for any responses...

J.D.

Hi all,

Have any of you had any luck reading/parsing non-solicited CAN readings from a 2010 Prius? Specifically the ones defined by Atilla's spreadsheet:

www_.vassfamily.net/ToyotaPrius/CAN/PriusCodes.xls

(Sorry for the underscore - it is my first post and do not yet have linking privelages!)

including speed, various temperatures, battery aspects, etc? It is worth noting that the spreadsheet specifically says it applies to the second generation of Toyota Prius's whereas the 2010 is third generation, but I was hoping at least some of them would be compatible with the 2010 Prius.

Given my hardware setup being as follows:

OBDII to CAN:
www_.obd2cables.com/products/obd-cables/obd-ii-cables/cable-j1962m-right-angle-to-db9f-4-3-ft.html
then CAN to USB:
www_.candapter.com/

I used the CANdapter logger utility, which seems to have just send the following commands to the CANdapter:

'V': get version
'N': get serial number
'S6': set speed to 500 kbps
'A1': turn time stamps on
'O': open CAN channel

then wrote the data given from the CANdapter to a specified logfile:
rapidshare._com/files/308449913/2009-11-17-11-23-07.txt.html

From said logfile, the only CAN frames I can seem to extract (pertaining to Atilla's spreadsheet) are 020, 025, 0B4, 230, 262, 3CF, 423, 4C1, 4C3, 4C6, 4C7, and 4C8, all of which seem to be useless (except 0B4 as speed, which the data extracted does not match actual speed driven).

So it looks like either Toyota has changed the CAN codes, or I am doing something wrong. So If anyone has had any luck with with getting 2010 Prius non-solicited CAN readings (or more modern codes?) I'd appreciate the help!

I started my Prius at lunch today. The engine started and was running fine. I took my foot of the brake and the car moved forward against the parking pawl. I would not have given it much thought but it was up hill.

So the engine had engaged the transmission somehow while it was in park.

So I turned it off and the car lurched back on the parking pawl.

Again I started it and it moved forward again when I took my foot off the brake. Now I am getting worried.

So I turned off the car and it lurched back on the parking pawl.

This time I started it and took my foot off the brake and it did not go forward. I pushed on the gas and it did not move. Everything normal.

After lunch everything still normal.

Outside temp is 51f and it had been sitting about three hours before I went to lunch.

Anyone else experienced this?

This question may have already been asked/answered before (so please excuse) - Does anyone know what type of headlight bulb Toyota uses in the 2, 3 and 4 models of the GenIII? I've read that they use a H11 (is this correct?) type halogen bulb rated at 55 watts, but I was also interested to know who makes it, and what the brightness and color spectrum is on the OEM bulb? I'm looking to replace with the Osram/Silverstar ULTRA, which claims 4100Kcolor temperature, and up to 50% brightness improvement when compared to standard, OEM halogen bulbs. Does anybody have any info, or experience with the ULTRA? Also looking at the Oshram Nightbreaker and Phillips Extreme Power (but have heard only rated at 350 hrs lifetime). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
