1. Harley riders almost never wave at anyone except other Harley riders. I don't know why your experience is otherwise, but most other riders have found it to be the opposite of what you say (and I've even experimented, waving at everybody only to have most Harley riders blow me off). I think it must be some kind of "Harley attitude" thing...whatever.
2. Only wave when you're outside of a metro area, or commuting area. You don't usually wave while just commuting to work or driving on the freeway, but rather when riding in rural areas or mountainous areas where seeing another motorcycle is less common.
3. I don't find it annoying at all. It's a ritual that indicates that you share the enthusiasm of riding a motorcycle and acknowledge another rider's love of the same.

I did most of my riding in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. I used to ride a lot on the weekends just to get out of the house. I used to ride through Cherokee and up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Maybe the Harley riders around there are just friendlier than in California.
[/b]
I ride a lot... I'm a self admitted crotch rocket hooligan, and I wave to most harley dudes, and I'd say about 60% wave back...

To simply say some of the posts I've read in this forum are approaching looney is a understatement. What is wrong with some of you people?

Hint: The Pirus is a car. Try to remeber that. Its a mechanical machine. Ok, a pretty neat one, but still its just a car. Normal people don't give their cars pet names. They don't wave at other drivers on the road because they happen to see somebody driving the same kind of car they're driving.

I swear, somebody soon is going to post they keep their car in a garage but since winter is coming they bought a over-sized electric blanket to put over the car so it don't get cold. I bet already some posters just before going to bed pat their Prius on the hood and say good night, see you in the morning.

Geez, I bought a Prius because I thoght it was the intelligent thing to do at several levels. Yet I keep reading what can best be described as kook posts in this forum.

Consider these comment only semi-serious, but at times it is getting pretty silly
[/b]
You're right, on a certain level the Prius is "just a car". But it is also a very remarkable vehicle. So if, at times, we come off as raving looneys you'll just have to excuse us. There's some really crazy "stuff" going on in this world and if we can find some enjoyment in worshipping our car - well, it sounds pretty harmless to me...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was something to do with me being in California. Most Harley riders I've seen here are just weekend warriors who wish they were "badass" (which is why they ride the ultimate image bike to begin with). That probably accounts for the attitude.

Yet you won't park in the handicapped spot!
[/b]
Okay, I'll come clean about the handicapped spot...

I was dating this guy in high school. We pulled into this mall parking lot, in his car, and happened to drive by a car occupying the only HC spot in the area.

He immediately got bent out of shape and slammed the car into reverse, then stopped and (I'm still grossed out about this decades later) "hucked a lugey" (sp?) on the windshield.

He'd just started telling me what an a**hole whomever was, to use that spot when the windshield wipers and washers of that car came on; what had happened was that there really *was* someone in the car (and handicapped, no less) and he just didn't see them.

I took a few things away from that incident:
--spitting on someone's windshield can send mixed messages.
--there are often times when it's best not to jump to a conclusion.
--guys who have this proclivity prob'ly aren't my type.

Ever since this incident, I've been more about feigning normalcy in order to become part of the system...and then subverting changes from within.

My my my, aren't we the bright little ray of sunshine?. I've never seen such vitriol outside of FHOP. And a personal attack, too.

Have you considered therapy? Or, as others have suggested, ignoring the so-called kooks rather than poking them with a stick and asking "what their problem is"?

Just a friendly suggestion from someone who hasn't named his car.
