I found an interesting editorial in our local newspaper. The excerpts below are a cut and paste job to wet your appetite. Please follow above link for full text.

Proposition 90 is a Trojan house
The Editor: Robert Plotkin
2006-10-30

...So it comes with a particular sense of betrayal when it is the government that takes a man’s land and gives it to another...

...The anti-regulatory movement began in the early 1980s, when President Reagan [pushed]...Deregulation became a political religion and soon everything from air travel to telephone service was deregulated...

...The Wise Use movement suffered some setbacks during the Clinton years, but came back stronger then ever during the last two terms of the current Bush administration and have done great damage to the federal government’s regulatory powers...

...Since Measure 37 passed two years ago [in Oregon], over 2400 claims have been filed, totaling $5.6 Billion dollars. Unable to pay, towns and cities all over Oregon have been forced to waive the zoning restrictions...

...it should serve as a warning to Californians that the Wise Use movement is trying to destroy the government’s ability to protect and regulate the state. Let us be vigilant against them. Let the Greens triumph over the Browns.

It's me MJ again: Some population centers pride themselves on very little zoning regulation. I live in an area where zoning laws are created by the local residents to guide their vision of 'community', including the the legacy we choose to leave for future generations. Zoning and using the regulatory environment to achieve our citizen derived Countywide Plan have been instrumental in the long term preservation of our environment. Anyone hoping they can just drop in and forever alter our natural living environment for their personal gain through an overpowered regulatory environment is unthinkable. Responsible development created in accordance with our County Plan, guided by locals works. Ecological hit and run doesn't, but has been successfully used elsewhere by developers, corporate ranches, logging companies and the military. Remember, when they pull out YOU are left with the toxic effects, the clean up and the over powered infrastructure. Whether you are invested in your community through family, real estate, or as a proud active participant, your vigilance over sneak attacks on your community is imperative if care about where you live.

Regretfully they call it Imminent domain, taking your property for the good of others...

The city or county will offer you what the property is worth to them, normally your stuck and have to take the money because you cant sell it.. I think the Imminent domain ruling made by the Supreme Court was just leaglizing theft..

Eminent domain sounded like a pretty bad thing when the Supreme Court upheld it.
Recently the small Ca town of Hercules used Eminent Domain to stop an unwanted Walmart intrusion. Not such a bad thing after all.
But like the article explained ,Prop 90 is actually a bait and switch tactic to fool voters .Typical right wing deceit.
