Get rid of POI's

I guess I'm stupid, but I can't get rid of the POI's that show up on my 07's NAV screen all the time. I tried following the manual but either I didn't understand or it just didn't work. Can anyone give me specific, dteailed instructions as to how to have them stop showing up all the time?

Very simple. Use the voice activator button and say "Hide all Icons". A lovely voice will confirm your command and the screen will clear.

On my '05 I just hit the voice activation button and say "P -- O -- I OFF", and they go away. It is one of the better-understood voice commands.

Of course voice commands typically require no windows open, or screaming kids.
