Doesn't matter what type of vehicle gets damaged. Same punishment as any other punk vandal gets - restitution, hefty fine or community service and misdemeanor conviction on his record as local law allows. Jail time teaches nothing.

I disagree. And I believe part of your misunderstanding of what needs to be done is your outlook of "what can the perp LEARN from the experience"... which is complete manure.

Punishment does not necessarily mean you are gonna "teach" em anything... it's about punishment. It appears many have forgotten what that means.

While I agree long term imprisonment wouldn't be the best avenue to take with the geriatric perp, 30 days in the county detention center CAN DO WONDERS for an ADULT that hadn't previously been a felon. I have seen it work in our community for several folks over the years... they are good neighbors now, and they ain't damaging other folks stuff anymore either.

Jail time DOES teach those that CAN learn that they don't want to be locked in a box. Never being put in one for criminal behavior has proved throughout history to breed further acts because they do not need to fear the consequences of their actions if they know you will let them go home after some coins change hands.

The old fart caught on film knew exactly what he was doing and tried to conceal his criminal actions from others while he was doing the keying... this is precisely the kind of perp that needs some "seat time" in the jail house... It was a preplanned methodical deliberate action and shows the intent of the perp was to damage the property of another without his being identified as the one doing the damage.

While I agree that prison is a bit of a stretch for this perp, jail time is not.

He should have to pay to get the hummer repainted and fixed, then pay for it's gas for 3 years.

WOW... talk about a fine... that could be some serious coins... my Vette used $550 gas per month... and my Vette gets far better mpg than an SUV that size does...

Wow, talk about your cruel and unusual punishment! But seriously, he should pay for repairs.

five-page arrest warrant for James Andrew Jeppe in the Southlake Hummer vandalism case.

Among the highlights in the warrant:
  • Mr. Jeppe is a Southlake Carroll football fan and was at the school on Sept. 5 to purchase tickets to that evening's game.
  • When police showed Mr. Jeppe photos of the man seen vandalizing a Hummer, he told them he must have a twin.
  • Later during questioning, he confessed, explaining "I've been frustrated lately -- I did -- I went in there and I did that truck," Mr. Jeppe told police, explaining that family troubles and financial stressors led him to scratch the Hummer with his car keys.
  • Mr. Jeppe initially told police this was the first and only Hummer he had vandalized. But he soon admitted to keying four other Hummers at four other locations in recent months. Asked to explain his motive, he said "They have a big carbon foot print and they use four times as much gas as the rest of us do and I don't think it's fair."
  • Mr. Jeppe told police he is a member of the Sierra Club and Green Peace and that he donates money to both. He said he isn't tied to any other organizations and that he acted alone.
