The planet should be more afraid of something like the next eruption of the volcano that Yellowstone sits on. That would be an extinction event, and the planet is overdue for one of those.

There were lots of folks that did rebuild there. I took the insurance money, sold the property after the clean-up, and moved. I was there when it was shaking, watching the ball game... with my second wife, my first natural child, and two foster kids... as well as two cousins and their kids... we were off of Highway 17 about 11 miles from Santa Cruz... there was more than one quake/shaker over those first few weeks, and the house kept crumbing with each aftershock... I was tossed up in the air more than once during the first quakes... there were folks down the road that were killed in the quake... it made me realize I wanted my family to live somewhere else. However, in my heart, it is to this day some of the most beautiful land in all of the USofA. I regret selling the land, even though it took me hours to drive to go to where I earned a living, some of the time I was away for days working, to keep money flowing into the banknotes and credit card payments... but... I don't regret living in the valley now. I go to visit the area several times a year when I can... but, I know better now than to live on the faults out here.

Friends: 11 | I like to visit the Bay Area, but I don't miss living there. I would have been a renter for the rest of my life at the rate that the housing prices were climbing at that time (85 - 91). I like Sac because its a day trip to the coast or a day trip to Tahoe. I also grew up in Placerville, so its closer to "home" for me. |

Friends: 17 | I have lived in L.A. since 1/79. Went throught most of the quakes out here, except Sylmar in the 60's. My home, built in '52 is still standing, I'm still standing, and I am at 1800 ft above sea level. Whatever happens, happens. I have survival gear, food, water, medicine's, and advanced first aid training. I also have a generator conveted to propane, fuel for a week of 24/7 operation and the 7.5 kW solar system, enough radio gear that I can contact any point on this panet, from CW to advanced Data transmissions. When it hits, as long as the house is stil standing, I will have Power, TV, Radio Communications, and most important, COLD BEER!!! All you can do is be as prepared as possible, and not worry excessivly about it. Last edited by KK6PD; 07-12-2009 at 12:59 PM. |

Friends: 17 | You get a Propane conversion kit. It replaces the float bowl at the carb. It was a simple swap. Kit also came with a regulator, and gassifier to lower the pressure of the propane and make sure it entered the system as a gas. Google Propane Conversion. I did this right after Northridge. The nice thing about Propane, it does not need stabilizer like gasoline. I have 8 20 lb BBQ tanks, eack tank will run just about 24 hrs! There is no city code, unlike gasoline!
