We bought our Prius Dec.29, 2006, and we're loving it. We drove a Honda civic for about 15 years, and it was good to us.

As for the monomaniacal thoughts, I've changed my morning commute so that I can use the "pulse and glide" technique. The morning temp has ranged from low 30's to low teens. My drive is about 12.5 miles both ways (rural roads). I've found that I can get about 50 mpg (this is with other trips mixed in where I can't "pulse and glide."

I find that I'm obsessed with tracking my miles. My commute time has increased by 15 minutes (I don't drive farther-just a different route to avoid highways), and I like it! I find myself annoying my wife and colleagues with my mpg updates! I called my wife and asked her to meet me in the garage so that she could see the display from one of my trips home! I'm excited to see what will happen when I drive in warmer weather. She's happy about my new habits too.

Is anyone else obsessing and drastically changing their previous driving habits?

Here's another site for MPG obsession:

www.CleanMPG.com

I say "obsession" in a positive way; I hang there too. The focus is on maximum fuel economy in any type of vehicle. You can learn from some of the "hypermiling" masters.

Like you, I've radically altered my driving techniques and routes. I'm a slow learner, though. I bought my Prius in 12/05, and it wasn't until last summer that I started routinely doing the things you're doing.

I don't really count, because my "previous driving habits" have already been permanently altered through five years/60k miles of EV driving. If I can ever get my Prius up to the 120mpg(equivalent) that my Rav4EV enjoys, then I'll start crowing.

Welcome to Priuschat: aka, "the land of Dork-dom."
Am I obsessed? Click the "Current Mileage" link in my signature.

You might want to tone down the mileage talks with the coworkers and the family. I have found that they do tend to get tired of it. Even if they don't come out and say anything, there's a good chance they will become annoyed.

I too have changed my driving habits these first two days of driving my work commute in my new Prius. Just picked ours up on 1/27/07.

I am paying attention to how I drive more than ever before and working on mastering the P&G!!

Good luck with your "obsession"! You are not alone!!

I wouldn't call it an obsession, but I do find that I drive a lot less agressively in the Prius than I do in other cars I've driven. But I did get a block heater here in warm NC... And I'm trying to convince myself that I don't really need a scanguage or canview... Maybe I would call it an obsession!

This is one of the best things for me.

I tend to invent games for anything I do. It used to be "the ulimimate driving experience" involving stupid sprints, late braking and lane changes. It was fun but the new game of obessing over MPG is as much fun and leaves me and the environment more relaed

In the end the difference between 46MPG that I get if I just "drive it" and 53 MPG that I get when I work on it is not that much. But I'm much more involved at 53 :-)

If just this winter would end!
