You know, I was really proud of myself for finally breaking the 40MPG barrier (41.6 as of this morning, 4 bars left on the gas gauge). Then I read this thread.
[/b]
lol. It's okay. The point is you beat a personal best. Now you can aim for 45, then 50 and so forth.

Best so far this year: 46.2
Worst: 44.8

That's usually my range, unless the car goes on a trip. This thread is reminding me to check my tire pressure, it's been at least 6 months........

I'm at 68.4 MPG after 220 miles. If the weather holds I'm hoping to hit 70 MPG before those guys in Virginia.

I got 70.4 on my way into work yesterday ( 15 miles) but ended up with 57 round trip back to home, since i live in the mountains. Downhill to work... uphill to home. But I'm starting to get the hang of the Pulse and Glide technique.

Oh and PS: I just re-read the topic, it is still winter here, as the highs are only in the high 40's to low 50s.

Hang in there it gets better. Mine started out low and keeps getting better each day. I've done 271 miles in the first week and hit 49.5mpg. I filled up at the halfway point when I got this mileage.

Hi, kathrynne1. Welcome to PriusChat, by the way.

The display color scheme can be changed. Sorry, I can't remember the exact steps off the top of my head, but if you check your owner's manual -- or if you're like me just start fiddling with the display buttons -- you should be able to find out how.

Hello Wayne, and welcome to PriusChat.

As a great starting point, use the techniques in this article written by one of the PC moderators. Then read this article on CleanMPG, which focuses specifically on driving technique. Be patient and persistent, and you'll see your numbers rise.

You asked for the best, but I'm going to give both worst and best. I've driven about 1200 miles since (and including last Friday the 25th). From Cheney to Olympia, WA (~ 325 miles, I don't have my records in hand), I got about 48 mpg. This involves an elevation drop of 2500 ft, but was as close to 75 mph as I could do, since I was in a hurry.

Anyway. I hope I can do better on the way home.

Well, I'm on the way home now. In about 280 miles I'm at midpoint on the guess gauge. That includes about 30 miles around Moss Landing and Watsonville. I got as high as 58.1 mpg after having driven through a lot of gridlock until I finally got onto 505 (a bypass that took me up to I-5). Getting onto 505 and traveling 65 mph, the mileage gradually dropped until at Corning I'm at 55.8 mpg. Still the best mileage I've ever had over an extended distance. I'm told that the gas in California has ethanol in it even during the summer.

I'll be curious as to what happens to my mileage when I get into Oregon.

My last tank was 55 here in South Bend! I bought at the end of September, so I really did not see very many warm days last year. I am hoping that once the temperatures get in the summer range on a regular basis, I will be closer to 60 for my commute.

I'm still averaging just over 62 MPG on my tank and have over 350 miles on it now. However I've noticed that the first 5 minutes is what matters the most.

First 5 minutes I get like 30 MPG, after that I don't get lower than 75 MPG.
