Hey everyone!
First off, I want to say that I love this site. It has everything I'd want to learn about the Prius!
I'm new to the world of hybrid technology. I've learned a lot from this site as well as Wikipedia, and I hope to be able to increase the depth of my hybrid vehicle knowledge.

Well, after buying our 2002 Prius, the first fill up was $20.28. That's compared to $36.00 average for the 2003 Intrepid we owned. Big difference! It's already proving its worth.

The trip home averaged 46-50 mpg on the highway. VERY impressive.

Now, I've changed the oil with Royal Purple 5W30 synthetic oil and I've installed a K&N air filter. I also installed AutoLite Iridium spark plugs. We'll wee where the mileage ends up!

I'll post the mileage with the maintenance I've done as we spend time driving the car. I love this machine!

P.S. Where are all the 1G Prii owners at? It seems to me like there are A LOT of 2G Prii owners compared to the number of 1G Prii owners.

Hi and welcome to PriusChat!

This site started around 2003 so the 1G owners don't really hang around here but we do have some knowledgeable ones. There are also more 2G owners because there are a LOT more 2G sold compared to 1G Priuses.

If you want to get a bit more technical, I would suggest hopping down to the Yahoo! Prius Owners Group and join the crowd.

Nevertheless, congrats on your purchase! We hope to hear more from you and your car!

P.S. For your reference, here are a few sites you should check out. Yes, it applies to the 2G but some of it can be applied to the 1G

john1701a.com (great user guide for both generations)

Hmmm, the specified spark plugs are NGK or Denso iridiums, so I would want to be certain that the Autolite plugs are equivalent.

I also use the K&N engine air filter but be aware they have a reputation for letting dirt into engines. The only way to be sure is get the engine oil analyzed, and look for silicon. Also, after you re-oil it leave it on a paper towel overnight before re-installing. That way it won't drip on the air flow sensor.

Sounds like you are into maintenance, so may I also suggest a precautionary change of the transmission fluid. Either use the original type IV or be outrageous and use type WS, as in the new model Prius.

Good point about the AutoLites...I'm pretty sure they're just fine, but I'll do a little research and find out some more.

As for the precautionary CVT fluid change, I really want to do it, but I'm curious about the potential of using the Royal Purple synthetic ATF.

Well, off to more research. Thanks for your help!

Hello all,

I my self am a new Prius owner for about one month I have a 07 wht with package 3 on my new Prius and I just want to say this is the best car I have ever owned. Prior to owning the Prius I owned a GMC Yukon and I got sick of filling up the car every week and putting in $80 a week in gas just to go 400 miles.

Last night I filled un my tank an I put $31 in the tank to fill it up but the best part is that according to the display in the car I averaged 48.9 on 441 miles

I would also like to say that Prius chat has a lot of great info and I cannot wait to learn more about my car thanks to everyone who posts all the helpful info.
