So after really trying to glide and always getting arrows in one direction or another, tonight, I got a full 2 minutes of pure glide, no arrows whatsoever! It felt as though the Prius was a gazelle.

Bgdrewsif; just out of curiosity, what velocity range were you maintaining during your 2 min glide?

I haven't a clue, I wasn't really 'downhill' but had a very slight downgrade, I've been trying this pulse and glide schtick for a week (had the car for almost two) with NO success on flat open road. Always had arrows in one direction or another, no matter how I positioned the pedal! Grrrrr, I'm a drivers driver (and, yes bigmahma, I have ovaries, shocking!) I've always been able to clutch-less shift, perfectly matching engine and gear speed, L8 apex using cars power and weight shift at the auto-x, I am zen masta of heel and toe. So not be able to this, which seems fairly straight forward and simple, was beyond aggravating. I was just stoked to see no arrows, and pure silence Crap, I think I'm really starting to dig this car!

I've had my Prius for just about a month now. It took my quite a while to get the hang of the pedal position for a glide but I can now find it everytime I try. I find it easiest to "find" after releasing the acclerator completely then feathering back on to get to glide mode. However, this method does decelerate the car slightly since there is a slight moment of regen. I am now practicing on feathering off to glide mode without ever hitting the regen state. I'm sure I will be able to master this technique with more practice. P&G is a great driving technique.

What kind of shoes do you wear when driving? Seriously.

I find it harder to P&G wearing boots or heavier work shoes during the week compared to my running shoes on the weekend.

Is it sad that my car dictates my fashion choices?

That's not sad. I feel like we should all be wearing V-neck silver jumpsuits in our Prii. My favorite sighting of Prius-fashion combo was a guy in tweed and a bow-tie though. Very old-fashioned style with a very new-fangled car!

P&G is really easy when you're in the right operating mode. During some stages of warmup it's not easy to get, so for the first few minutes of a drive you might not get pure glide. After that, you can do as KDK84 mentioned and take your foot completely off the gas and quickly but gently re-apply pressure. I always find it easier to hit glide through regen, rather than by slowly releasing pressure. Sometimes it feels like you have to trick the car into doing it.

I usually wear my dansko clogs (work dictates my fashion) :P But I usually slide them off, The tilt on the stearing wheel makes my knees bump it with them on, and drive with my socks on.
