Hello,

Just wanted to say that I love my new EBH. It made a world of difference for my 18 mile round trip everyday to work and back. This was the first tank of gas since I started using the EBH that Wayne installed on his trip around the western states. I had a hard time breaking 61mpg before the install so I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Oh and this is the first time I ever broke 600mi on a tank too. Thanks Wayne!!

Holly Cripes! That's awesome!!!
Honestly, that's Wayne territory, up in the 70s.

Currently, with ~220 miles on my current tank I'm averaging 68.9 without the EBH - due to be installed next month. So you'd better step it because I'm on your heels!

very very nice, took me 3 1/2 years to break the 70mpg barrier for a tank!

Very impressive. Did you use any technique to achieve it?

Thanks for the comments. The only technique I used was only drive back roads and pulse to 40mph and glide down to 30mph most of the time sometime to 25mph if traffic permits. I start my drive in the morning at 5am so there isn't much traffic on the back roads I travel. I could do better but I stop at about 15-18 of the stop lights/signs on my route within 20 minutes, that sucks.

Awesome. You're lucky to not have to use the freeway, that's really kills my mileage. I guess I don't have to use the freeway but it saves me about 15 minutes. Still I manage 63-65mpg tanks. Wish I could get 70+! Summer ending will make it a little harder as well. Good job!

Thanks for posting! I was wondering about the benefits of using an EBH in a warm climate like AZ. Sounds like it still makes a pretty significant difference! Makes sense, as my first 5 min bar is still pretty low due to warm up. Do you leave it plugged in all night or just a few hours before driving? Is it thermostatically controlled, or just always on?

Thanks,
Rob (phoenix)

I have it set on a timer to come on about 3-3.5 hrs before I leave for work each morning. My first 5 min bar went from roughly 30-40mpg to 50-75mpg...a nice improvement.

If it only added 15 minutes, I'd probably avoid the expressway. After I got the Prius, I tried going home from work once without using the expressway to see if I could increase my MPG. My commute went from it's typical 65 minutes to over 150 minutes. My usual commute home has less than a half dozen stoplights and stop signs. The non-expressway had so many I lost count.

Ah well, I'm still happy with the mpg I'm getting and the half dozen or so times I popped up over 60mpg during the summer were great! I've got my pipe insulation ready to block the grill this winter, and FireEngineer did a great job of installing an EBH for me, so hopefully I won't take too bad of a mpg hit when the cold months get here.

Hmmm, sounds like I need to get me one of them! I am plagued by the short commute syndrome, only about 10 min to work mostly freeway. My first bar is usually 25-30mpg, then 55-60mpg for the second bar. I'm just coming to the end of my first normal routine driving tank and at 50.1 mpg] 400 miles. I'm very happy with that result, but I think bringing that first bar up would make a big difference!

Did you buy local, or order online? I assume there isn't much market for block heaters in Phoenix

Thanks for the info,

rob
