local driving

i was wondering if the prius was good for 1 mile driving...

yea i could walk but i have class after work.. which is why i need to drive.... can't waste time to walk to work and back to house then drive to school...

What do you mean by "good". Your FE for that mile will be pretty terrible (by Prius standards), but it works just fine.

Nobody walks in LA

What about a scooter or a bike? Much cheaper than a Prius if you only need to go a mile.

I concur with Ed, that's why our average is so low,

safeway, less than two miles
work: less than 3 miles
top 5 favorite restaurants: maybe up to 4 miles

So "poor" fuel economy for a Prius, you betcha, but over time, still better than most cars of this size, eh?

So what we've done is, not the scooter, but pretty much starting this Fall simply take the Muni and/or walk, the problem is the hills are murderous with groceries, so one must wait for the Muni. We've got a rhythm down now, but lost time waiting is still time, considering all things we're cool with it.

If you install an EV switch and use it correctly, you could probably
save quite a bit over those short trips. A block heater might help
too, but the cost tradeoffs for preheat vs. a short trip might shift
a bit from the usual...
