Default Highway mileage, avg 51.8 mpg -trip report

Hello, I just took my first highway trip from Lexington, KY to columbus, IN. this would be out on Highway 64 to 65 North...

I got an average of 51.8 mpg, for the trip, both directions. I drove the speed limit, 55 in reduced zones, and 70 on the highway. I used cruize all the way.

I noticed that in the hilly parts, far southern Indiana, and Kentucky I got up to about 52.5 avg at times. however as soon as I was about 15 miles into Indiana (flat lands), it quickly dropped to less than 50 average, maybe 48 to 49. I was watching the chart bars and you could really see the difference there, as all bars would be slightly above 50 in Kentucky hilly highways, but dropped to a bit below 50 across 30 minutes in Indiana's flat highways.

all in all though I am very pleased with the trip, over 282 miles, and just below half a tank...not sure of the total gallons used, but based on my last fillup, I would suspect about just under 5.5 gallons.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for sharing you experience. sounds like doing a few mph over the speed limit would still yield pretty good mpgs. If doing 75 mph on interstate yields anything above 46 mpg - then thats just peachy :-)

That sounds about right. I just turned 60,000 today (since new Jan. 06), and lifetime avg. is 51.5. 90 miles a day almost all freeway with a couple of moderate hills.
