Friends: 0 | I am taking the plunge and buying a CAN-view v.3 for my '05 Prius w/ NAV and would like to add a backup camera. For those of you who have a CAN-view with backup camera, which one did you use? I don't mind paying extra for a good one that is as easy as possible to install (preferably with night vision) without needing to splice, dice or tap any wires, if possible. With the CAN-view Norm tells me I will need the LEK-CCR2SRGB converter from http://www.threedoubleyou.com/otherconverters.htm, and a custom cable that he provides. What else will I need to connect a camera to the CAN-view? Is there a camera that comes with connectors that simply plug right into this converter/custom cable combo? I am not an electical engineer or an experienced auto stereo/accessory installer, so would like to keep this as simple as possible and I would like to know everthing that will be involved before getting into this. Thanks in advance, Bill

Friends: 0 | I just sent Norm the payment a few minutes ago. The CAN-view should arrive in about 10 days, which unfortunately will be too late for our next PriusClub meeting. Judging by the instructions on his website the installation of the CAN-view itself looks straightforward enough, however I'm hoping I can talk Doug into giving me a hand with installing the camera once I figure out what to get and I could use some advice on that front as well. |

Friends: 0 | I don't know about best but I used the Costal Tech ( http://www.coastaletech.com/rear_view_camera.htm ) license frame camera. Dave does the wiring harness so it is Prius ready reverses and aims the camera so it is on the bottom of the frame so you can get at the hatch opener. You will have to tap one wire. I had the Toyota dealer do it for me during a routine 5K oil change. I did not want to run the wire from the back to the front. The converter box fits nicely under the Nav computer. It works well in low light but is not "Night Vision" The backup lights provide all the needed illumination even on a "Dark and Stormy Night". It is not cheep but is good.

You can connect any NTSC camera with composite RCA connector to the LEK converter. You have a lot of conversation about this topic on Priuschat. One is:http: //priuschat.com/Recipe-for-a-rear-view-camera-t16338.html The most complicated version of camera install (the original, expensive, Prius camera) will take you 6-8 hours of work. If you choose some other type of installation I think it will take you less time and complications. So, don't be afraid, the pleasure is great when all is done and working well...
