I have a 2007 Touring Edition Prius Package #6. I want to upgrade my stereo system. I love the car and all its features but I am really disappointed in the sound quality of the JBL sound system. I am new to the Prius game and don’t know if upgrading the sound system will cause me to loose any of my current features (voice activated navi, bluetooth, etc…). Are there any cons when upgrading the Prius’s sound system? I'm looking for a place in the Bay Area that does quality work and has experience with the Prius. I am in the San Jose area so the South Bay is preferred but I’m willing to drive to get some quality work done.

I am looking to change out the JBL system with this:

Diamond Audio 6.5 HEX components – Front
Diamond Audio D3s or D6s – Rear
Alpine PDX 4.150 amp – planning on using Alpine amps for their compact size
JL Audio cleansweep
Alpine PDX 1.600 amp
Diamond Audio D3 or D6 subwoofer – custom enclosure
Dynamat kits

Recommendations\opinions on this setup and shops in the area will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

An impressive list of equipment. Properly installed, I think you'll be very pleased with the sound in your Prius. I know of other posters on Priuschat who've used the Diamonds as well (my car has all Diamond Speakers).
I've read other posts here on PC discussing good install shops to use there in California.....maybe try doing a search on the PC message board. Seems like someone had a shop in the bay area do a custom fiberglass sub enclosure. Maybe search using "custom sub enclosure" or "bay area installer".
Cheers,
Geo

Okay, found it....see the following thread: http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=16805&st=20

This is an easy one. Franks of Berkeley. They do high quality custom work (and are Diamond dealers as well), Mike is their main installer and is absoutely brilliant. They arenot cheap, but you get what you pay for, and they have done TONS of Prius jobs naturally being in berkeley. It's worth the drive, and they are very close to bart for what it's worth.

They worked on my 2005 Prius with the JBL package and make everything 100% factory clean and sounding perfect. Install included Diamond 6.5 HEX in the front and Diamond 600 in the rears. An AlplineAMP as well as the Kenwood (toy) powered sub as well as a Coastal Tech Nav override, OEM XM install, and Ipod kit.

They did a similar job for my highlander as well and the work is just top notch. I have had them working on my cars for many years. I had a problem years ago where some wire came loose like four years afte rthe work was done and they spent 2-3 hours rerouting it at no charge. Again, you get what you pay for. I cannot recommend Franks of Berkeley highly enough.
