Friends: 0 | I successfully installed the Vaistech SL2Vi yesterday and all works as advertised. Video looks better than I expected. Audio sounds great. One nice feature is that in DVD mode, the iPod regains control and I can use it to navigate the music library. Far nicer than one song at a time as in MD mode. Bummer is that since it is in DVD mode, it is disabled while the car is moving. Not a deal breaker as I can pick the song when stopped, but the audio stops when the car starts moving again. Furthermore, Vaistech is adding firmware to put music navigation on the MFD. I bet it will be disabled when the car is moving too. So a question I can't find and answer to. Does the MFD speed sensor mod enable the DVD mode while the car is moving? Edit: Took the plunge and solved not only this issue but the ebrake issue. Last edited by mhiatt; 04-27-2008 at 09:08 AM. |

Hello I too have the sl2vi and now need to enable the video (which i believe is the ebrake issue) but I also want to enable video while the vehicle is in motion (to keep the kids quiet). Any ideas on a) ebrake to actually see video, and b) ebrake disable to see video when in motion? Thanks in advance

Friends: 0 | yes, ive got mine to work. Ive got an '08 prius and the sl2vi. I remember making two seperate mods to the wiring behind the mfd. One was to allow video to work, and the second mod was to to allow video to work while the car is moving. once i bought the sl2vi, I was able to get some instruction from vaistech on how to do the above. I also bought a push button switch from radio shack to make the second mod above temporary. Reason being is that when disabling the speed sensor to allow video during motion, the mpg bars on the info page no longer show. let me know if you guys have any more questions... |

Friends: 0 | i installed the sl2vi today and i fixed the ebrake issue as per VAIS - ground red wire in the #16 position on 26 pin harness in back of mfd. it was the 26 pin harness (left one) and the wire is on the bottom row 4th from the right). now i have the issue of the speed sensor. can you provide details on what wire needs to be grounded? also, are there any adverse effects to grounding the speed sensor? when i fixed the ebrake issue the brake light dash light always lit - so i had to install a switch to "unground" the wire when driving and not watching movies - in addition to passing inspection at motor vehicles. |

could you let me know the details of the 2 mods you did on the back of the mfd? I have a 08 prius and the video won't work, the " picture " button is greyed out! I have tried to push the wire into pin8 ( should be the e brake issue ) but it still doesn't work.. The wire could not be pushed in to pin 8 completely...is there any technic in grounding this pin8? tks a lot! would really appreciate your help!

For me, the entire install took 3 hours. 30 minutes to run wires and hook up the unit, 2 and a half hours to get that one ebrake pin into the harness. I couldn't get it in for the life of me. I double-checked the sizing (I'll admit, it might be a teeny bit too large), the orientation, anything I could think of. I finally gave up on being nice to it and shoved it in with all my might using the smallest screwdriver I had. I think I had to use a hammer. Just be careful, don't jab the screwdriver into your hand, and angle it correctly so you don't risk damaging the rest of the harness. I recommend placing the tip of the screwdriver against the metal part of the pin so you don't jab into the wire (too much). I know the screwdriver method is absolutely stupid and probably ruins the wire, but I figure since it's a ground wire and used just to see if your ebrake is "on" or not, it doesn't matter too much. Good luck. Seriously, don't jab your hand though.

I seriously was thinking of the same thing! just push it in whatsoever! This is strange that this is not advised by vais and they left all of us trying to figure out how to push in a pin.... so yours worked after it is completely pushed in? does the other end of wire needs to touch the metal part for it to work? I will go and give it another try!!!!!!! by the way, which emulation mode are you using? md or mp3? tks again!!!!

I have tried to ground pin 8 as vais said but it is still not working. I also checked the position you said but there isn't a red wire. I have a 08 prius, what is your year and package? It is quite frustration trying to get the video to work..i have spend so much time but still can't get it working...
