Default Coastal Tech Lockpick 3

I have a 08 Touring with Package 6 on order and have a question about the lockpick. I emailed them a few weeks back, but never received a response. I want to have the ability to use the Navi and Bluetooth, which version do I need? I don't want to buy the Ultimate (don't care about video) if not needed. Also what does the bluetooth function give you? Lastley does this effect your warrenty at all? Thanks in advance for your help on this!

I'm have similar questions and would like to add one more.

For the bluetooth/navigation functions, does that module just install under the drivers seat where the dvd player is?

The navigation part can be installed under the seat. If you want the bluetooth functions it has to be installed behind the radio. I also have the video and used it twice, once while waiting in a parking lot for a table at a restaurant. ( a long wait ) and at a drive in movie waiting for the movie. Kept the kids busy while we waited.

I just had a strange experience with trying to order the Ultimate 3. I got through the order, giving it my Australian address by using the familiar drop-down list of countries, completing the order, then having it calculate the shipping charges to Australia ($100, a big yeouch but I don't care, it's all tax deductable), then entering my CC details. When it processed the order, it came back refused, stating that the Vendor doesn't accept foreign currency or something.

I emailed them, curious as to whether I'd hear from them considering the bad support cited in these forums, and got an email back fairly quickly (a few hours):

I'm sorry, but we don't process international orders, take international credit cards, or ship internationally. Our products aren't tested internationally, so if it was used on an international vehicle the product warranty would be void and we would not be able to provide tech support. Thank you for your interest and have a great day.

What the hell? I sent a reply politely stating that they might think about not accepting international addresses and calculating international shipping charges if they don't frikkin accept non-American orders.

I also stated that I'd be happy with having a non-warranted, non-returnable item but I haven't heard back, and don't expect to now.

I know the Australian Prius is slightly different, but I would have thought it trivial to check or test their device on a few non-American cars by willing volunteers, or getting someone like me to check a few things first to see if it's likely to be compatible. I would have thought that they'd have a pretty intimate knowledge of the workings of the Prius to know what would need checking on one from Australia.

Unfortunately you seem to be in the majority of users unhappy with the customer service at this place.

For what it's worth (and I'm in the UK so am another International owner not able to get these kits) you may want to do some reasearch into fitting interrupt switches for the speed sensor to the MFD so that you can use the screen while in motion. Yes, it'd be a DIY install, but there's some interesting sites which should help you. Google is your friend! (Also of course the excellent site by Darryl, Prius Mods )

In terms of video inputs there are a few other options out there. The Sli2V from ViasTech will let you display an iPod video source on the MFD. You can also find various aftermarket video inputs from a variety of sources which will have some success with a Prius.

What exactly did you want the lockpick 3 for? I think some of the features can be easily replicated. Others will be a tad harder.

Nikki.

Not saying its good customer protocal, but hey, it IS a geek device, made by geek device makers. The lion's share of geeks are not known for their social skills, or customer service. From the geek's point of view, they'd likely say something like, "hey, each of our geek devices is adequately described on the geek web pages, so if you can't understand it? .... well ..."
Then, when you consider how many times a geek company gets the same repeat, already explained a billion times type questions, over & over & over again ... yea, I can see geeks not necessarily fawning all over their potential customers.

Again, not that condone it ... but I sympathize w/ both sides.

Do geeks tell you they have something in stock when they don't, then tell you they've shipped something when they haven't, then charge your credit card anyway? The geeks I know are better than this. The losers, not so much.

Ordered a lockpick 3+ from them on Monday, on Tues I received UPS tracking info that shows its already in the hands of UPS. I looked up the tracking # on the UPS site and can see its travels so far.

So is it true or false that the lockpick can allow the Nav to be used in motion on the 2008 models?
