That light (which I haven't seen yet - but soon!) and the reverse beeping (it's a great idea, just too loud, I have sensitive ears) are the two biggest things that are going to take getting used to in my new car!

You can turn both the reverse beep and the seat belt warning at speed off. See the Knowledge Base for more info.

Thanks Wayne - I did see that I could remove the beeping - but I'm taking a wait and see approach. Because I do like it -- if it could just be a little bit softer :P

I scoured the 'net and found this page. I'm too jittery to do anything drastic, but if you're interested, you might want to look into it. The end result is that the "Low Temp" light doesn't come on:

Thanks everyone.

So I guess there is no magical sequence to turn off the low temperature indicator, except for moving to Hawaii.

I agree the indicator is a good idea, but to have it on all winter may just prompt me to use the duct tape method. Actually black electrical tape might look better.

Living in San Diego, a drop to 50 is considered extreme, but I can see why that would irritate after a while. I was going to suggest the black electrical tape too. It's either that or try to deactivate the sensor or the light by cutting a wire.

Hi RPotter1770

As for the "Low Temperature" dash light, DaveinOlyWA's suggestion about duct tape is a solution; however, others have suggested using black plastic electrical tape instead of duct tape - goes well with the panel colors. If it "bugs" you that much, just tape over it. The electrical tape would be easily removed later.

Maybe we should ask Toyota to let it turn itself off after it reaches -10°C or something like that. i.e. make it so that the warning is applicable for that temperature range where black ice can form.

actually the temp sensor is set to come on at "black ice" temps which is about 37º... assuming salt-less roads i guess

Yeah, but have it turn off at a lower temp. It works as a warning at 3°C but below -10, we know it's snow and ice and the road's probablly partially or fully snow covered.
